First the Artesian Bore Spa is free to enter. However, I think if you enjoy it then offer a donation to the council to help maintain and update any facilities. These Artesian Spas are the best that I have been to. They have change rooms with showers and toilets, some places don’t. There are two spas, the big one is at a depth of over 1.5 metres and over 40c in heat. Only spend about 10 minutes in the water fully submerged up to your neck, then get out and sit on the side because your body needs the rest. You can then get back in for a bit longer and repeat, by doing this you minimise the chance of becoming dizzy etc from the natural heat of the water. This water is very relaxing and good for your body. Make sure that you take a plastic bottle of water, your going to need it to stay hydrated. Read the signs that are up at the entrance as they have important information that you may or most likely need to know. The sunsets a nice and I am told that the stars are wonderful to look at from the spas, so go and try it at night. It’s open all the time except 10am - 12 noon daily for cleaning. They have a few tables and chairs so you can take your lunch etc, just relax and enjoy!

Hot! Very hot! Invigorating. A must do experience, but keep it short. Warm your self up in the outdoor shower, before hopping in. Early morning or sunset is the best time to come. Get to know the locals or meet others passing through. Bathroom and shower facilities available. Bring shower-shoes/thongs! *** Caution if you are elderly, have blood pressure issues, are pregnant or are bringing small children - the heat of the water may be overwhelming and unsuitable. *** COVID19 is limiting intake to 20 guests at a time, in the cooler hours of the day, this may mean queuing until there is room for you. The wait shouldn’t be more than 30 mins. *** The brick pavement is slippery due to mineral salt residue, so be careful. *** Alcohol not permitted.

Fantastic artesian bore baths if a little on the hot side. Admission is free and the pools are open 24/7. Not pet friendly. Has 2 pools, the large one at around 42 degrees +-, and a smaller one that's a bit cooler and only shallow (deep enough to sit in). We started in the shallow one for a while and then went to the big one. Should only spend about 5 minutes in the pool at one time then get out to cool down before you can go back in. Apparently if you have low/ high blood pressure, heart problems or other health issues definitely only spend short amounts of time then allow your body to cool again. Very relaxing and enjoyable. A must do.

Years ago a uni mate and I enjoyed a soak here, amidst solitude and starlight. A long train ride through the mountains and hills, followed by a long bus ride through sheep country, racing the kangaroos and emus with ABBA on the sound system, brought us to this crusty one-pub town at the frontier.

We toured the old opal mines, then pitched our tent out in the bush atop the chalky terrain. Walking idly through the village at the mellowing end of day, we found a humble pool that steamed quietly into the cooling air. The water was clean, abundant, and so very satisfying. The whole earth comforted us in a warm embrace, under a massive starry sky.

I lost touch with my travelling companion long ago. I wonder if he remembers how perfect the universe...
