If you're looking for a free camp-site with walks and waterfalls, then you have to stay at least one night here. There's flushing toilets (which even have lights on through the night), and BBQ facilities, which are very well maintained (thanks to locals). The grounds are clean, lots of birds during the day, and Quolls at night. There's bins for rubbish, and also a small playground for the kids.
As for the walk to the Falls, it's easy, not too steep and surprisingly, they're bigger than I expected, and their actually quite beautiful. Great for anyone looking to practice their long exposure photography, just the right size and position.
There's ample room for quite a few small campers and some spots already have open fire areas, so bring plenty of firewood.
I found it to be a perfect one night stay, if you're heading to the east coast area, not too mention, the locals are supper friendly in Lilydale itself.
Awesome spot, and it's free, what more could you as...
Read moreVisited Lilydale Falls with my uncle recently. It’s a short and easy walk from the parking lot, about 10 minutes to the first waterfall and a little further to the second. Both falls are small but still nice to see, especially with all the greenery around.
The track was a bit muddy, so wearing proper shoes is a good idea. Also, there were quite a few mosquitoes, so I’d recommend bringing some insect repellent.
There’s a picnic area near the entrance with tables, which is a good spot to relax if you bring some food. It’s a quiet place, not too crowded, which is nice if you want a break from busy tourist spots.
Overall, it’s a good place for a short walk and some fresh air. Not a must-see, but if you’re in the area and want a peaceful nature spot, it’s worth...
Read moreLilydale Falls is actually two waterfalls that are a short distance from each other. The first is a walk of approximately 5 minutes and the second a couple of minutes further on.
We found the track very walkable even in the wet. It is a beautiful area, and the falls themselves were lovely. We have just had a night of solid rain, so the falls were flowing beautifully. The carpet of leaves from the autumn fall were gorgeous, and the tree ferns were stunning.
The falls are about a half an hours drive from Launceston in the Lilydale Falls Reserve.
There’s something special about waterfalls, and I, for one, can’t get enough of them. Thankfully, Tasmania has some 200+ of them. I expect we won’t see most of them but if I’m nearby I’ll visit.
