We stayed at the Highfields Gatehouse recently. To be honest the garden is a little worse for wear and needs some TLC but we did stay during winter. The accomodation is lovely and well presented (apart from wet washing left in the washing machine and a dryer that did not seem to work). More concerning however we didn't feel safe staying here. We went out for a walk and lunch only to come back and find the front door unlocked with keys hanging out of the lock...clearly visible from the front of the property. We were worried as our belongings could have been stolen and we were not sure if someone was still inside. We had to search inside if anyone was there or anything was missing and make sure all windows and doors were locked again, it left us feeling very uneasy especially as female travellers.
