In September 2021, we drove to Longreach and opted to do a five day Tour with Outback Aussie Tours. Visiting Camden Park and meeting the Walker family, was the highlight for me. Outback Dan boarded our small bus as we entered the property and we drove to ‘the hill’ where Outback Dan’s Mum had set up drinks for us as we watched the sunset. Along the way Dan described various aspects of the property and we saw Mum pig with several piglets. He also offered us a job cleaning his 55,000 solar panels. 😀 We were made to feel very much a part of this lovely family who like others in the area, have suffered the effects of a 10 yr drought. It’s a tough life but they have diversified to keep the property going. It has been in the family for five generations. Sadly they had been forced to sell another property. After sunset we moved to the Shearing Shed where Brooke (Outback Dan’s wife) had prepared an amazing meal for us. White tablecloths, chandeliers and all. After dinner Dan took us outside for some stargazing and an opportunity to try whip cracking. The Walker family are very special and we were all made to feel part of their lives. It was a very memorable evening. Just wishing we could get back there again soon. Highly...
Read moreDan and his wife Brooke are lovely people and gave a great tour of their homestead and put on lunch We paid in excess of $250 to more or less have a peek inside their homestead and a cold meat lunch.
It had been raining so we couldn't get up to the shearing shed, however I was led to believe there appears more to the tour online that what occurred. Their website says artesian bore and springs, lookout shearing shed and working cattle and sheep station. This is not the case. When I asked Dan about the sheep and shearing, he said there hasn't been sheep in the property for years and years. We turned up on the bus, drove to the solar panels, hoped off, looked inside their ball room and dining room and had lunch and left.
I feel it was false advertising and quite unjust for the money paid considering it would be $12.00 lunch.
By reading the reviews it seems dinner is a better option than lunch (we weren't given the option to...
Read moreThe Walker family (the owners) give you the tour. They tell you about their lives and history of the place. Great country hospitality! Very nice historic home, with a large living room. Queen Elizabeth II visited this home. (I say that to show the importance of the family and the home at that time, I think it was around 1970, not celebrity adulation for the Queen.) One of my favourite activities...
