An Unforgettable Adventure at Sheoak Falls.

If you're craving a true nature escape, this hidden gem off the Great Ocean Road is a must-visit! While parking is limited, a bit of planning pays off in spades with an adventure that's equal parts thrilling and breathtaking.

The trek begins with a short hike to the waterfall base, an easy five-minute walk through serene bushland, guided by the soothing sound of a creek. Along the way, you might encounter some sunbathing lizards who seem to enjoy the foot traffic as much as you will! After decent rain, the waterfall is a spectacle, perfect for photography or even a bracing summer plunge in its crystal-clear waters (10Β°C and oh-so-refreshing).

For those who crave more, the trail to Swallow Cave and beyond offers a more challenging hike with increasingly rewarding views. Reaching the top of the waterfall is like stepping into a different worldβ€”a secluded, magical Otways wonderland teeming with wildlife. Look out for kookaburras, koalas, and majestic black cockatoos as you cross picturesque creeks and explore hidden picnic spots about 2.5 km further in.

A few tips to make the most of your visit:

Wear long pants and sturdy shoesβ€”this is snake territory, especially in warmer months.

Pack water and essentials. The upper trail is remote and blissfully off-grid (no phone reception unless you're with Telstra).

Be prepared for surprises. Weather can change quickly, and the trek is more remote than it feels.

The upper trails are where the real magic happens. It's peaceful, lush, and quintessentially Otways, yet only 20 minutes from Lorne. Whether you're looking for a short nature fix or a more immersive hike, this place will leave you in awe.

Don't just visitβ€”immerse yourself. It's...

What comes in your mind, when you want to see a waterfall ? I’m sure there will be number of factors. May be some of these: It should be of decent size and shape & when you see ….its like wow. Easy to reach the waterfall, not much of a hustle for a people who are not a regular hikers and want a normal walk and less of a distance. A good place to take pictures, make videos for your instagram, youtube, tiktok and fb followers, or May be to click a beautiful image for your self amd follow your passion for photography or videography. Just for fun and to spend quality time with family and friends.

Well you will be surprise, this hidden gem has it all of it. Its on one of the most iconic road drives of the world - β€œthe great ocean road drive”. On your way to 12 apostle you will find this beautiful fall near Lorne. The water fall almost 15m down from the rock into a pool surrounded by beautiful lush green trees.

The walk to the site from the car park is roughly 700m one side. Its a mix of steps & normal walk. On your way to the fall you can see beautiful veiw of the ocean and can talk some mesmerising shots of the great ocean road too.

A short and easy walk to a lovely falls for those visiting or passing through Lorne. It is family friendly but not an accessible falls (no prams/wheelchairs etc).

Park at Sheoak Falls carpark, about 10 minutes out of Lorne on the right hand side (non-Ocean side). There are no toilet facilities.

There are some steps in sections as you head up towards the falls. Just before the falls there is a fork in the track: to the left leads to Swallow Cave which has its own small falls and the cascades of Sheoak falls, so despite some stairs leading upwards, it's well worth the extra walking and time.

Overall, allow anywhere from 30mins to 1.5hours depending on if you hurry or take your time, as well as whether you do Sheoak Falls only or the cave as well.

For those who appreciate geology, the rock formations on the left as you walk to the falls, as well as those at Swallow Cave, are quite...

Dont miss this on your Great Ocean Road adventure. Details below πŸ‘‡ Tall forest, diverse fungi, fern gullies, beautiful waterfalls, right by the powerful ocean! Our tips: 🌳 Most of our filming here was captured at The Redwoods Otways. A sequoia section of forest you can visit. Very popular for photography and you can see why πŸ“Έ ⏳️ Good any time of year to visit. Busiest in warmer months. πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ There's a Great Ocean Walk through here, over 100km hiking! πŸ’§ Sheoak, Beauchamp, Hopetoun Falls, Triplett and Erskine are all waterfalls you can visit. Good luck choosing which one to go to they are all great 😍 πŸ„ Look closely at fallen logs for so many different mushroom villages! πŸ™ We recognise the Gadubanud and Gulidjan as the traditional custodians of the land here who cared for it, for at least 65,000 years! Whose visited or visiting the Otways? 😊 . . . . #greatotwaynationalpark #greatotway #otways #redwoodsotways #redwoods #australianrainforest #discovervictoria #visitvictoria #victoriaaustralia #thisismelbourne
