Allandale Winery — Attraction in Lovedale

The final stop on our day tour is a boutique winery specializing in fun and creative wines, Allandale Winery where you are greeted with two friendly dogs. They are filled with energy and are craving for some attention from visitors. Rafael provided great photo opportunities here for everyone with a backdrop of the vineyard!

It is worth mentioning that by this point, we have sampled so many types of wines and sparkling that everything is starting to taste the same and become a bit of a blur. Needless to say, we will endeavor to recount our "expert" thoughts on the wine!

We were brought into the back room where the distillery was located, and all the barrels of wine was stored to transport, or to age. The set up was very interesting as it gave you a back door into the reality of wine making, while also provided some privacy to ensure we had an intimate wine tasting session.

The wines we tried included the 2013 Savion Blanc, Sparkling Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Pinot Griev Lombardo Rose, 2014 'Matthew' Shiraz, 2014 Hiltop Shiraz and the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon. The white wines had more of a yellow tinge to them, and the reds were quite sharp on the nose. Went there with 3 friends and had the most lovely afternoon. Brydee was lovey, knowledgeable, and made us feel very welcome. As someone who is a bit of a novice in red wine, Brydee was unbelievably helpful and accomodating in taking me through reds that she thought I may like, I even ended up buying a few!

The tasting was not set wines, so we were all able to all try different wines which made it a great personable experience for each persons preferences.

In a cold rainy Saturday afternoon we stumbled upon this beautiful vineyard with its tasting menu, well what a find this was! We had a delightful range of wines each distinctive and delicious. Our hosts Riley and Brynee, treated us to knowledgeable insights into the wine making and history of each, culminating in a purchase that will certainly be enjoyed when the memory of this Hunter tour fades. It would have been great to have been offered the ability to have some food with it but understand that is not always possible. We will be back! Highly recommend the Chardonnay...
