God's Hill Wines provided myself and my partner a truly unforgettable experience for our engagement, orchestrated between our tour organiser Bus and Barrel and cellar door manager Rhylan.
As we cruised through Lyndoch and an attached residential area we weren't ready for the spectacle ahead of us. We crested the hill leading into the vineyard and were absolutely blown away by the view. The vineyard was surrounded by trees and hills, framing the valley of vines as if it was a painting on a wall.
We pulled up and were instantly greeted by the intense bundle of energy that is Rhylan.
With a greeting and a snap of his fingers he beckoned us to follow him to a private area fitted out with a bar and a cosy and welcoming wood-heater. A simple table, chairs and dining cloth were set out, accompanied by wineglasses for tasting.
Music was playing which set the mood, and Rhylan showed us through some exquisite white wine tasting before pouring us a glass of champagne in celebration of the day.
Meals were arranged for us from the on-site restaurant Ennia Cucina, which we are still dreaming about. The cuisine was purely and perfectly Italian.
Rhylan (and later Sam too) were the greatest hosts; and while to them the gestures may have been simple, we have been delivered a cherished memory that we will never forget.
Like us, if you are ever in the Barossa Valley please do yourself a favour and stop by God's Hill - you will be treated like family and offered a moment in time you'll...
Read moreSo glad that we decided to drop into God's Hill Wines yesterday on our way back to Adelaide.
Entering through the main gate we were immediately struck by the picture perfect, postcard view of a stunningly beautiful vineyard set alongside the backdrop of the Majestic Hills.
A handful of tables and beautifully crafted rustic timber bar provided the perfect vantage point to take in the surrounds. We were welcomed by Carmine "Charlie" Scalzi - a delightful chap, engaging, entertaining and passionate... he offered us some pizza and as we proceeded to sample his glorious wines time slowed down.
His Black Olive Merlot is the best Merlot I've ever had.... not at all timid, this one punches you in the face and delights the palate with wonderful flavours, echoing the unique soil profiles of the region.
His 2018 Aglianico was simply delightful.... but there were lots of other very enjoyable options including his Salvaggio Cab Sav, crisp Sav Blanc and perfect Pinot Griggio.
After nearly 2 hours of Scalzi hospitality we left relaxed with a bunch of great wines as well as a bottle of his Felice Port, Olive Oil and Limoncello... even my kids said "We're coming back to this place". Charlie and God's Hill get my highest rating.... another one of Adelaide's best...
Read moreIt’s overprice, a highway robbery, they served us a not freshly cooked food. First they serve as a plate of prosciutto melona followed by the main dish of small piece of lasagna parmigiana which was cooked from the previous day and we think it was just a leftover from the previous day as the servings are not in equal portion, just heated up and it just came with a boiled potatoes on the side. Then a cheese board platter for us to share. He gave us one 9inch round pizza which he said is on the house. There’s no dessert at all. Nothing is freshly cooked. They charged us $70 per person with this little amount of food ( the $70 is only for the food ) With 2 bottles of still water, 1 bottle of sparkling water, 1 bottle of white wine, a bottle of red and a bottle of Shiraz. The owner opened all 3 bottles at the same time without asking us.We left the place still starving after paying $96 per person. What a rip off, we all felt being robbed in broad daylight 🤨 The two stars is for the view, in fairness the view is really nice but we go there for the food as they advertise it as a “no menu” restaurant serving freshly cooked food that whatever Nona cooked for the day. We are all disappointed. We’ll never go back there and we’ll never recommend it to...
