Awesome, epic little hike for those who have a bit of aerobic fitness, calves that are used to sustained STEEP rough terrain and are confident with their footing. If you’re not the above then maybe give this one a miss. I’m closer to 60 than 50, do a fair bit of walking and hiking and found it a nice challenge but not overly hard. It took 3hr return and I spent plenty of time taking in the views and loads of photos along the way. The track is rocky, dusty and steep the whole way. When you get to the really steep bit known as the no waiting zone and start the serious rock scrambling section be aware that not all the rocks are stable, particularly on the way down. Take the “no waiting zone” signs seriously, I was consciously doing my best not to dislodge any rocks but still two came loose and hurtled straight down the middle of the track, if anyone was below me, it would have taken there head clean off. If you’re on this section and hear a rock falling, don’t even look up, it will be travelling to fast for you to react, just dive to the side of the track and protect your head. Once you’ve above the no waiting zone you’ll come out at a well vegetated flat saddle area, where you’ll see tracks going in all directions. To the left (E) there’s a great lookout area taking in the summit and rock face you’ve just been climbing beside. To the right is the rock face and west summit. Straight ahead to the summit. The final push to the summit is the only exposed section, the entire lower section is well vegetated. The views from the top are spectacular, a worthy reward for the effort. I found going down was much more slippery, unstable and harder...

This was my second trip to Mt Maroon with some girlfriends who hadn't climbed the track before. The track starts at the carpark and is easy to follow until you start stairmastering up the rocks 😅

The track up the rocks is reasonably worn, if in doubt keep an eye out for the orange trail markers to help find your way. Some light scrambling half way up but minimal exposure.

A great half day option in preparation for a Mt Barney expedition! We started at 8am and got back to the car by 12:30pm. Stunning views from the top on a nice day 👌...

Well worth the 4am start for the hike. Awesome view from the top with the sun just popped out as we got to the top. Bit hard in some sections. Track was well traveled so no issues with finding the way. However, as we have done the complete loop from the summit to the caves was a different story. Track from the summit to the caves was not traveled much you will literally have to find your way.

If not for having All trails on the phone, we would have had trouble finding the way in some places from the summit to...
