One if the most beautiful places to visit in Australia. A "must-see" if you drive through the N.T. Mataranka township is 103km from Katherine, or 440km from Darwin, on the Stuart Highway - National Highway 87. 2km further south is the turn-off to the Thermal Springs, and the homestead. 6km along that, the road terminates at the thermal springs - impossible to get lost. You have to pass through the Homestead complex to get to the Springs, which are in a National Park. Entry is free. The Homestead offers facilities for caravans and tents. Also there are a dozen "motel units" - very run-down. And ten cabins - a bit run-down, but worth it, all things considered. The Homestead has a tourist information centre, a licenced bar, and meals are available sometimes, as is entertainment. Both the Homestead and the National Park have suffered from neglect over many decades - such a shame. But it's still worth a visit, in...

Mataranka Hot Springs, located within Elsey National Park, is a tropical paradise in the Northern Territory known for its warm, crystal-clear waters and lush surroundings. The natural spring-fed pools are shaded by towering palms and eucalyptus trees, offering a serene and rejuvenating escape. With well-maintained amenities and accessible pathways, it's a great destination for families or those seeking relaxation in nature. The water temperature stays pleasantly warm year-round, making it ideal for a soothing dip. The area also offers picnic spots and walking trails that lead through stunning landscapes rich with wildlife. Mataranka’s historical connection to the novel "We of the Never Never" adds a cultural element, making it a must-visit for anyone...

This place is like heaven on earth! It is not as busy as Mataranka Hot Springs, the scenery is surreal and makes you feel so calm. The water is perfect temperature where you could stay here all day. Make sure you are sun smart as it’s pretty exposed. We loved how the current takes you down the stream and you can even bring a snorkel to explore and the best time to go is from 7 am then after 2 hours more people start coming in slowly. Bring a pool noodle and try to buy one at Kmart before you come for a visit (it’s cheaper!)

Loved the bitter springs or mataranka springs same same, more of a natural setting than the thermal pool. The water is so clear and looks iridescent. It's warm and inviting an easy float down stream with a pool noodle. The car park is a lot smaller than the thermal pool car park difficult for caravans and trailers to park. Only a toilet there with no other amenities. We did see some crocodile traps there🐊😱 Negative was that it was so crowded.

Very natural springs, not too hot, just warm. Very clear water, with some submerged logs but not a problem. Quite long so lots of people can fit, a bit of current can take you to an end where there are stairs to get out and a path to walk back and do it all again if you don’t want to swim back. About 2 meters deep in middle, most visitors bring noodles especially if not a good swimmer.
