Firstly, one star is for the mini golf course, as that kept me and the husband entertained for over an hour. The second star is for the lovely lady at the front desk. Thank you for your positivity, kindness and effort!
As locals wanting a nice outing with our baby, we really wanted to love this place.
Everything sounds great on paper: giant outdoor games, huge dino sand sculptures, mini golf course, a couple of mazes, a lovely nature walk, rock climbing and high ropes course, a zip line, family friendly cafe, art, sand sculpting.
I'm sure if you visited on the weekend or in holidays (when rides are open), paid the full $40 (Adult) and $35 (child) to do the high ropes and rock climbing, and also brought cash to pay extra for the mini train ride ($5 pp), tiny (rundown looking) carousel ($5 per ride), bungee trampoline ($10 for two tickets) and canoe ride ($15), you might have a more enjoyable experience. But even then you would be spending over $130 ish for a visit with two adults and a child.
You can pay $30 extra to head down the road to Enchanted Adventure garden for: 2 adults, and 1 child (4-12) to do Nippers tree surfing where 2 adults can accompany, several WONDERFULLY manicured mazes, 5 big fun tube slides, a pram and wheel chair friendly canopy walk, an aerial playground in the sky, big brain teaser puzzles, a sculpture walk, a shipwreck playground and cafe. We could have spend all day here for an extra $30, even in the week.
However the Boneo park looked extremely run down, unkempt, a little creepy in the section where the giant games and closed rides were, and a bit of a waste of time. Nothing looked like it was manicured or taken care of. The hedge maze looked so sparse, you could see through it. I know their aim is to let nature do it's thing so kids can explore and lead the way with their imagination, but they can do that for free in nature reserves and beaches. I think to charge the amount they're charging to offer a space that looks very uncared for is a bit nuts. The sand sculptures looked awesome but felt a little random.
Overall, I don't think it's a good way to spend your money for a family day, especially in the week as the ticket prices are still the same price despite not being able to utilise the other things the park would normally offer.
Nature, wildness, unstructured play, adventure activities... all the things they say they offer on their website... that's free. It's all around us. To charge such high prices, there needs to be more on offer than there was. Or at least what there is on offer needs to be a little more cared for/exciting.
If all the little rides were sold off, and replaced with a themed, wonderful, giant play park/splash play area available all week, I think that would be even better than what's there.
Won't be back, but thanks anyway, and hopefully you can learn from competition and adjust some things to do better in...
ย ย ย Read moreI don't even know where to start... Definitely not worth the $100 we paid for 2adults and 2 kids to get in. It is such a shame too, because this place has so much potential. It could be so beautiful. Maybe if I start a list of things that are of honourable mention... hedge maze bald in spots, made for quite a confusing expedition to the Middle boardwalk needs repair and replacement.of planks Gardens need tending to, so overgrown it was over the pathways, which wasn't exactly ideal when walking behind children who of course grab at everything over the path, which in turn flicks Mum as she walks behind. the Carousel needs a spruce up, could be so beautiful, currently looking a little haunted -broken games with missing pieces, hooks, etc How is one to play hookey without the he hook? big games could do with some attention, poor horse chess piece was missing a head, Mini golf needs more even ground, more edges to stop the ball going into the gravel and maybe even more shade. None of the markers were on the course so just guessed our way through. Was cute that it was actually Mini Golf (not to be confused with Putt putt) no sand sculptures until December 2022, don't recall seeing anything about this on the website. barely a thing to do without having to pay extra, I think the $100 entry (included the Mini Golf which was an extra on top.of a family ticket) was more then enough to have some "rides" which were unattended gift shop was pretty pricey random decapitated dragon in paddock next to Park, which freaked my daughter out. no frogs, birds, wildlife, anything. Except about a dozen sheep hanging out with old no head McGee in the paddock.
Bungee trampoline and rock wall where the best for our 10 year old, although we didn't use them until we pointed out the money we had essentially paid to walk on a boardwalk and play Mini Golf were outrageous to which the manager/owner said we could go and use them, these would normally be at an extra cost.
Butterflies were beautiful to see. I fully understand with covid and everything going on in the world has effected everyone, but as most people do, I work hard for my money, I want to spend it on genuinely good business. I was just so disappointed with this. I hope they take some of the advice on board. Would...
ย ย ย Read moreWe visited Boneo Discovery Park on a weekend outing, hoping for a fun adventure, but my experience was a mixed bag. While some elements shone brightly, others left me underwhelmed, especially as an adult visitor without kids.
First off, the staff deserve a huge shoutoutโthey were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout my time there. Everyone was helpful and made me feel valued, which set a positive tone right from the start.
The standout highlight was the mini golf courseโit was absolutely awesome! Challenging yet fun, with creative holes that kept me engaged for a good hour. The layouts were imaginative, and it felt well-maintained compared to other areas. If you're into mini golf, this alone is worth the trip.
Unfortunately, the rest of the park was a bit of a letdown. I was glad I didn't bring my kids along, as they would've been bored out of their minds on a non-holiday weekend. Key attractions like the Rock n Rope, Bungee Trampolines, and Carousel were completely shut downโthey only operate during school holidays, not on regular weekends, which would have been frustrating and made large sections of the park feel inaccessible.
The games area had potential to be amazing, but it fell short because not all the equipment was available or functional. It seemed like things were half-set-up, diminishing the excitement. On a brighter note, the park itself is an incredible natural habitat for wildlifeโI spotted birds, insects, and even some native animals in a serene, bushland setting that I couldn't fault. It's a peaceful spot for nature lovers.
The Dino area could use a cleanup; it felt neglected with overgrown paths and dusty exhibits. That said, the sculptures scattered around (including the Dinos) were pretty cool and added a quirky, artistic vibe.
All in all, this park seems tailored more for young children and primary school groupsโthink interactive learning and low-key play in a natural environment. For older kids, teens, or adults seeking thrills, it might not deliver outside of peak seasons. Would I go back? Only for the mini golfโit's that good! If you're planning a visit, check the schedule for attractions and consider going during holidays if you want the full experience. Overall rating: 3/5 stars. Great potential, but needs better...
