About one and half hours drive from the city centre, Bushrangers Bay is a lovely day excursion. From the carpark there is a lovely 3.6km walk through soft forest and scrubland with views across a shallow valley to rolling green paddocks. Eventually you'll be rewarded hearing the crashing sound of waves and expansive views towards the beach and ocean. (It's a dirt path and a short steep section with stairs to access the beach so be aware this walk is not wheelchair accessible) There's a wonderful sense of wildness here, the Beach and Bay and Rock cliffs are stunning. From where the path exits onto the beach, directly to your right is mostly rock and cliff face and you can't go to far but if you cross the very small creek and walk along the beach you'll come to some great flatter rocky areas to explore. At low tide you can access this area more thoroughly, walking around the larger rocky outcrops and some awesome rock pools for swimming for which bushrangers Bay is known for. As inviting as it may look the beach itself is not safe for swimming with strong and dangerous undertows. In summer some people do frolic at the waters edge but the risk is entirely yours and not suggested especially for tourists who might not understand or appreciate the potential danger. Bushrangers Bay is spectacular at any time of the year and in fact l find it more compelling during the winter months for its natural impact. I love the walk and effort to get there and the reward of the views and wildness. It can be surprisingly busy during the summer months and l recommend a visit to Cape...
Read moreBeautiful scenery with rock pools, cliffs, trees, bridges made from small rocks crossing a small stream and clean sand. It is hard to find from the street as it is a small car park just off the road which can be easily missed and the gps will say you can drive all the way up to the beach, however, the route shown by google maps leads through private property so you need to park at the car park a great distance away. The walk is not too difficult but it is a good 7km round trip through a narrow path in amongst high trees with no views until you get close to the beach. Also worth noting is the walk back is uphill. Once close to the beach, there are a number of steep steps leading down to the sand. Definitely DO NOT recommend this beach for anyone with medical conditions that may limit their fitness capabilities. The beach gets a 5 star rating from me but I don’t think it is worth the walk and find Cape Schack even more stunning and only a 10 minute walk compared to 40 minutes each way walking at a...
Read moreAn amazing slice of the Mornington Peninsula! Parking is near the entry. It’s popularity at Summertime sees cars parked up the road. A great picnic area near the entry. A solid walk to the beach. The track is natural, with tree roots and overhanging branches. Comfortable walking shoes highly recommended. The walk down to the beach is easy. People have made a stepping stone paths to get across the small tributaries. The beach is littered with huge kelp, cuttlefish and shells. The rock pools are very special too; I spied 3 types of fish and a crab. The walk back to the car park is more challenging because it’s uphill! I counted 161 steps up from the beach! Once you’re up, it’s a relatively solid walk back to the car park. Don’t forget, no cats or dogs allowed and no rubbish bins, so please take your rubbish...
