This place is amazing! Walk the hour out and back plus allow another 1.5 to 2 hours to explore. The road out is easy walking - no cars allowed. You can ride your bike. So informative. Spectacular views. See where Harold Holt disappeared. See all the first, barracks, bunkers and observation posts. All landmarks ate well signposted with information. Fort Nepean itself has 6 gun emplacements. Most are open and the tunnels etc are lit up for you to explore. There are toilets at the end and places for you to have a picnic. You can stop a few places on the way too for a picnic. Take water, be sunsmart and wear warm clothing on cooler days. Take a torch for sections that are not lit up. A shuttle bus is available if you prefer for $12, jump on and off along the way. There are plenty of trails along the way. Which I explored. You can get maps from the info centre at the quarantine station or download or take a photo of the Billboard map at the Gunners hut where you park and start. Entry is free and I had an amazing time. You can also do the walk to London Bridge but you can also drive to it via London bridge road from Portsea. Thanks National Parks and looking forward to seeing your work of restoration continue and...

Fort Nepean is a historic coastal defense facility located on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. Situated on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Bass Strait, the fort played a significant role in the defense of Port Phillip Bay and the city of Melbourne during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Construction of the fort began in 1873, and it was equipped with a range of artillery pieces, including cannons and machine guns. During World War I, Fort Nepean was used as a key defense installation, and it was also used during World War II to defend against potential Japanese attacks.

Today, Fort Nepean is a popular tourist attraction and a significant historical site. Visitors can explore the fort's tunnels, gun emplacements, and other military installations, and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding coastline. The fort is also home to a museum and a memorial to the soldiers who served there. With its rich history and stunning natural surroundings, Fort Nepean is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Australian history and...

Memorable visit for two reasons. One reason is the nature & the historical value. It’s a spectacular view surrounding the ocean. The historical fortress left with ruins of cannons makes a picture of WWII. The location is very educational. Another reason is the shuttle service. You can have a walk or a bicycle ride to the site. And also a shuttle service available for $12 adult rate. I need to admit that drivers are professional. But the arrangement is very poor. 1. Although there’s a bus stop, there’s no queuing line. As a result unwanted arguments among the waiting passengers for their position on the line. 2. Passengers are squeezed in to the bus. 3. Hard up/down ride for standup passengers in a squeezed bus . Solutions: 1. Have a proper bus queuing line. 2. Loading priorities 3. More busses for long holidays
