Situated in the suburb of Wheelers Hill, Jells Park is approximately 40minutes from the city on the Monash Freeway and isn't too far from Knox City and The Glen Shopping Centres. There are a few sporting venues next door and across the road.

Over the years the council has worked hard to protect flora and fauna by building viewing platforms and huts/decks to sit in or along.

With over 900K of visitors each year, it is a popular place to socialise, relax, exercise or participate in a sport. There is over 9km of paths and trails [bike/jog/marathon prep/hike] and plenty of open spaces, 127 hectares to be exact. Many of Victoria's main bike trails cross through here and is a popular place to stop and have a break. It is flat in many areas and slightly elevated in others, making it perfect for young and old to access safely.

Random seats scattered throughout the park, are the perfect place to sit and drink a coffee from the cafe there. With an abundance of picnic tables, BBQs close by and many car parks to choose from, it is a popular place for families to gather. It is also a stunning spot to photograph the changing seasons and wildlife.

It is an educational place for children. Plus there are plenty of trees to climb, animals to watch, playgrounds, areas to throw a frisbee, play some footy/soccer/cricket/other sports, use the paths and get creative by decorating and adding a spoon to Spoonville.

Recommended visit timeframe: will depend on your purpose, but 1-3 hours is an excellent place to start. Parking is free, but be sure to stay in your allocated COVID KM zones as the police do check here...

Jells Park is one of Melbourne's gorgeous GreenSpaces in Urban places!

It's a Huge space with lots of beautiful lawn & trees to explore and a great place for picnics, kids parties, fitness activity, walking, jogging, cycling, kicking a football or a game of cricket and it's pet friendly for dog walkers (obviously on a lead as there's lots of water birds @ the park).

Most people who are walking tend to naturally migrate towards the lake area and there's lots of water birds to see, it's a calm serene place to just chill & take a breather.

There is a kiosk for coffee, ice cream or snacks and then an actual eatery, Madeline's where you can sit down and order from the menu. They are located adjacent to the car park and visible as you enter Jells Park.

The opening times @ the time of this review are listed as:

Weekends Sat & Sunday - 8am to 4pm and during Weekdays Mon to Fri - 9am to 3pm.

Madeline's also has a function space for hire during the day, called "The Alexander Room".

And best thing about Jells Park is, there is an abundance of free car parking for a suburban park, not that it doesn't get busy, but there's usually a space available even if you have drive a little further, which always makes life easier & your day or time out more enjoyable. 👍🚙🚗🚘

There is also an area with kids play equipment, it's modest in size but it is there if kids want to swing, slide etc.

Hope the info is helpful...

Jells Park is an oasis of parkland nestled amongst quiet suburb Wheelers Hill, urban development and busy roads. As you stroll through the park’s Red Gum grassy woodlands, heathland and around the wetlands, it's easy to forget you're surrounded by the suburbs. And busy roads. This is a great park for a family day out. Cook up a feast on one of the free electric barbecues or enjoy a picnic on the lawn. Kids of all ages will love exploring the adventure playground. Modules are included for junior kids and disabled access, as well as older children. Braeside Park offers a variety of educational and recreational opportunities. Get active and walk, jog or cycle along the multi-purpose trails. Walk around the lank and you’ll find the bird watching hut. Stroll through the park’s Red Gum grassy woodlands, and around the wetlands. A series of complex and valuable environmental communities find their home here. Discover the diverse range of bird life, listen for frogs.

A great place for hiking, picnic and specifically if you have kids, since there are two playgrounds one close to Ferntree Rd entrance an the other is close to the Waverley Rd entrance. There is a nice dog friendly cafe in the middle where you can have a meal or coffee while having a view of the lake. And just in between the lake and the cafe there is a vast dog off leash area. The park itself has a significant beauty that I haven't seen like it anywhere else. There are electric BBQ provide in different locations plus a few shelters in case in you're running a function of a large group of people. There used to be multiple solid fuel BBQ with wood provide to have a charcoal BBQ, but they have been removed. If you're taking your own BBQ there better to contact Park Victoria prior to make any fire.
