Not too large, scenic park. Walking pathway (road) as mostly flat except at the start which was a little steep, and the steep is quiet the steep😅 River is flowing in the side and a cross the river you can see the organ pipes, on a rainy day the path near the organ pipe could get a little muddy.there are also rosette rocks and the tessellation pavement. There are toilets in the start and the down near the pipes as well. Parking spaces also there. Quoted : Hanging gloriously above the picturesque stream of Jacksons Creek, the Organ Pipes Rock Formation was formed by the cooling of an ancient lava field which flowed over a million years ago. From here, either return via the same route back to the car park if you're strapped for time, or continue on to see all the natural wonders the park has to offer. Take the Left River Trail to see the Rosette Rock, where basalt columns are arranged radially to resemble the spokes of a giant wheel.

Magnificent example of native flora and fauna of the Basaltic landscape. The Basalt formations are a sight to behold, and the many volunteers and rangers keep the park in pristine condition. Ample parking, picnic facilities and public toilets. The descent to the Jacksons Creek valley is steep, but the path is paved most of the way, before it becomes a gravel path. Plenty of birds including superb fairy wrens, wattle birds, magpies and robins. Suger gliders and micro bats nest in the park. A wombat has been spotted recently as well as plenty of kangaroos, and maybe a snake. Althought I only saw skinks and lots of bull ants. Carry your water with you and wear appreciate footwear. I think I d best enjoy it in winter and spring. It can get quite hot in summer. Incredible park. Worth a visit with the whole family. Unfortunately, no dogs allowed.

Make sure you check what time the park gate closes. If you arrived after closed time. You have to park your car at the entrance gate and walk into the National Park. Not really a far walk so don't worry too much. There is a public toilet and an information centre so its quite handy. You start off going down a steep hill and once your at the bottom, you can see the organ pipes formed by a Volcano many millions ago. Sometime there is wallaby jumping around if you are lucky enough to see one. Not really crowded here much so if you like a nice good walk with peace. This is the place to go to. Best part of the walk is when going back to the car park. You have to walk up the steep hill, totally a good workout. Trust me, you will sweat like no tomorrow. Bring a 600ml water bottle and that should be enough to cover you for the walk.

Organ Pipes National Park, while relatively small, packs a significant geological punch, making it a worthwhile visit for nature enthusiasts and those seeking a quick escape from Melbourne's urban sprawl. Here's a breakdown of my impressions:

Highlights:

The Organ Pipes: The park's namesake basalt columns are truly a sight to behold. The sheer scale and unique formation of these volcanic rock structures are fascinating, offering a glimpse into Victoria's ancient geological history. Geological Diversity: Beyond the Organ Pipes, the park features other intriguing formations like Rosette Rock and the Tessellated Pavement, adding to the park's geological richness. Accessibility: Its proximity to Melbourne makes it an easily accessible day trip. Walking Trails: The trails, while some include steep sections, offer opportunities for pleasant walks and exploration of the surrounding natural environment.

Things to Consider:

Steep Sections: The descent into the valley to reach the Organ Pipes involves a relatively steep path, which can be challenging for those with mobility issues. The return trip uphill can also be strenuous. Park Size: The park itself is relatively compact, so it might not be ideal for those seeking extensive hiking experiences. Park closing times: Make sure to check the parks victoria web site for the most up to date park closing times, as they can change depending on the time of year. Facilities: While picnic facilities and toilets are available, it's advisable to bring your own water and supplies.

Overall:

Organ Pipes National Park is a fantastic destination for a short, educational, and visually stunning outing. It's perfect for families, photographers, and anyone interested in geology. While the trails may require some effort, the reward of witnessing these remarkable rock formations is well worth it. I would recommend this park for anyone looking for a quick nature fix close...

Okay, this review is gonna be hot and cold. Beautiful place for close proximity to the Metrolands. The entrance and exit is stupid! Because it is so unsafe, it literally is a large driveway coming straight off the M79 fwy. If you're heading there Bendigo bound in the sunset direction, if driving in the evening April-September it is very hard to see the brown sign! And poor signage also, they don't have displayed signs until the intersection at the very end of the turning lane. The turning lane Bendigo bound comes straight off the fastlane in a 100km/h zone, a bit dumb really and a bad accident waiting to happen. If the fwy. is busy, you'll be waiting in that median for a darn long time. That's the road rant, don't expect more from VicRoads). Now the park: Very nice vegetation and scenery of the Jacksons/Maribyrnong valley and of course the climax of the bassalt geological formations. The place is packed, try and avoid weekends, car park is chockers full. And now our good old friends ..Control-Freaks Victoria, yep so many things fenced off "no go zone this, no go zone that" and they lock the park gate as early as 4pm, even in longer daylight months too! It is bushland, but don't expect peace and quiet being close proximity to the airport, jumbo jet noise every 5minutes. Sorry for the long Karen review, good...

A Wonderful Day Out at Organ Pipes National Park:

I recently visited Organ Pipes National Park, and it was such an enjoyable experience! Parking was straightforward, with plenty of spots available, and the hike to the Organ Pipes viewing area was relatively easy and very manageable for all fitness levels.

The walk itself is serene and offers plenty of opportunities to take in the beauty of nature, with native plants, wildlife, and the soothing sound of the creek nearby. The highlight, of course, is the Organ Pipes rock formation—a truly stunning natural wonder created by ancient volcanic activity. It’s amazing to see how perfectly nature can craft something so unique.

Another great thing is how close the park is to Melbourne. It’s a short drive, making it an excellent spot for a quick day trip to escape the city and enjoy some fresh air and scenic views.

Highly recommend this park to anyone looking for an easy walk and a chance to connect with nature. Whether you're hiking, picnicking, or just sightseeing, it’s a...
