Wet, windy and wonderful. When I first came to Point Nepean National Park, I did not think in a million years that it would clock up the highly valued 'W Trifecta'

Arriving into the scenic beauty just after 1pm, I knew I was in luck when I was welcomed by the warm and glowing seaside sun.

Joined by my beautiful wife of about 5 or 6 years, our journey began strolling through the beautiful, yet quietly uncomfortable old hospitals of the Quarantine Station. Plastered with information or the long and painful history, it was a subtle reminder that what the men and women went through of yesteryear, is not too dissimilar from our modern experience with the recent COVID-19 outbreak (excited to read this morning that it is officially OVER!)

Moving from the Quarantine Station and into the public bathroom, I was pleased to met with a graffiti free bathroom. The bathroom experience was nothing to phone home about, but a pleasant experience nonetheless.

Finishing in the bathroom, I decided to make my way to the water, where the soft sounds of the ocean crashing against the sand was almost worth the price of admission alone ($100 for petrol and $40 for lunch). To the displeasure of my wife of about 5 or 6 years, off came my shoes and shorts, and into the water I went. The temperature was refreshing to say the least, but to have a deeper connection to those who arrived to the Quarantine Station by boat, was worth the sandy socks I would later return to my size 12 feet.

We rounded off our day with the main intention of the trip; to get as close to our daily recommended 10,000 steps.

Although the route we took was not exactly scenic and more of a path through a umbrella of nature, it did serve well in attempt to tick off our 10,000 steps.

With the trail coming to an end, we took the road route back to the car park, where we would find our safely parked 2009 Volkswagen Golf TDI.

All in all, the Point Nepean National Park proved a great option for a Saturday afternoon walk. Laced with history and views like no other, I would give the experience a star...

Point Nepean National Park is an absolute treasure on the Mornington Peninsula! 🌿 The coastal walk offers an immersive experience in nature, with breathtaking views of Bass Strait and Port Philip Bay.

The historical sites, including Fort Nepean and the gun turrets, provide a fascinating glimpse into Australia’s wartime past. Walking through the coastal bush and arriving at Cheviot Beach was a highlight - the Harold Holt Memorial is a poignant reminder of history.

The park’s accessibility from Melbourne (just a 1.5-hour drive) makes it a perfect day trip destination. The well-maintained trails and informative signage made exploring a breeze.

Don’t forget to bring comfy sportswear, sunscreen, and plenty of water. This adventure is well worth it! 🥾🌞

Overall, Point Nepean National Park is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts, history buffs, and anyone looking for a memorable day out. It’s a place where the beauty of the Australian coastline meets its rich cultural heritage. Can’t wait to return for more...
