Tommy Finn's Trout Farm — Attraction in Melbourne

We had a great day out at this trout farm, the beautiful scenery around the location, the options of fishing a beginner or advanced pond, the friendly and helpful staff who were more than happy to set us up with the rods, bait etc. Staff will even help you net the trout from the ponds as well as gut and clean them. In fact, the best part of this experience was the wonderful staff there, and especially if you have young children or never fished before they were always not far away to assist you. I took my 7 year old son here on Sunday at 3:30pm, when it said on the website it closes at 5pm. With no answer at the gate or on their phone in 10 minutes, we went back to the car to drive away. I then saw someone moving inside the gate so I went to see them. I asked him if they were open to do some fishing, he replied with “oh sorry we had to close this weekend, the pump has broken”. This was an excellent experience and very affordable at only $11/person entry fee and around $27/kg for the fish you catch. City people (like me) beware - you do need to take any fish you catch home with you! (It is inhumane to catch fish and then release them back as they will die slowly and painfully.) Catching a fish is nearly guaranteed! I looked up a steamed fish (清蒸鱼) recipe and made whole fish for the first time ever with my own fish. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
