Today we visited the Woolshed, Homestead ruins, and drove the loop back through River Drive. What a great place to camp!! The road was in good condition and the river drive has heaps of fabulous campsites on bends in the river. Many of them would be plenty big enough for a van and decent tow vehicle. I’m kind of disappointed we camped on the lake now that I e seen these campsites!! Woolshed was very interesting and the restorations are well done. The Homestead is a ruin. But the walk is interesting and should spark the imagination thinking about how tough life was on these places. The road was fine for the entire loop. It’s not bitumen, it’s dirt road into a National Park not a highway. But I’d happily take our van in there. Campsite near the Woolshed was unappealing to me at this time of the year, so you might want to check that. But if the road is open, we will camp on the River...

There is also a couple picnic areas by the foreshore that give you a beautiful outlook while enjoying your lunch. The campsite on Lakes Drive only has a few spots available for a tent or caravan but it offers your very own lake foreshore, with the sounds of ancient waves and salt water. You’ll see many emus and be able to swim and fish on the foreshore while not being disturbed by another person. Definitely...
Read moreThe Menindie lakes was one of highlights of our two week driving holiday. Kinchega NP has an interesting historic building, the Woolshed, as the tourist attraction and one track, the Billabong walk. There is a rich birdlife and interesting flora on the seasonal lakes and mudflats between Emu Lake and Cowndilla Creek if you can get there. River Drive and parts of Lake Drive were closed so we needed to explore around seasonal streams where the roads crossed them. No signed paths. The rest is bluebush scrub between dammed up lakes with some gum trees...
