Had the pleasure of family members to enjoy a visit to the Miles Historical Village Museum located at 141 Murilla Street,Miles QLD 4415.
This historic place is ideally located right across the road from the Miles Crossroad Caravan Park, where we enjoyed a couple of relaxing days.
The Miles Historical Village Museum began in 1971 by the Miles & District Historical Society & through the many decades & various committees has created a wonderful variety of buildings that house a great range of items from the early settlement.
I was most impressed with the attention to detail of everything that was on display in the 34 buildings that bring the rich & colourful historical heritage of the Western Downs region 😀
Full marks go to the staff onsite that made all of us visiting feel most welcome 🙏
You definitely need a good few hours to see everything & if that is not possible, you can obtain a pass to come back at your leisure during your time in Miles.
Some of the buildings to mention that houses an extensive war memorabilia, the building that houses the Shell collection & Lapidary display are a snapshot of what is worth time seeing 👀 😀
The main museum houses a large range of items from the earliest days, & the attention to detail is definitely...
Read moreI love historical heritage very much and jumped at the opportunity to visit the museum. I paid $10 extra for a guided tour and it definitely is most worth it. Robyn (our volunteer guide) was so full of knowledge. (If a person volunteers to talk about history on her day off, you know she loves doing this and would fill you with interesting information. Although on their website states a guided tour can only be booked with a minimum of 2 visitors, give them a call if you are solo as they may have existing booked tour in which you can tag on. The front of the main building which is also the visitors information centre is very beautiful with its manicured lawns. Visitors are offered free coffee/tea prior to the tour. The village is very big and has over 50,000 artefacts on display. There are 2 air conditioned buildings - war museum and the Great Artisian Basin building. Very modernised and a fantastic reprieve from the scorching heat if visiting on a hot day. Your ticket is valid for 2 days so if you want to go back the next day for another visit, you can. There’s even a real gaol. I like all the stories especially the one about Carl Duffel. Such a brave and responsible fella. Who is he? Go to the village to...
Read moreThis place is amazing and you have no idea as to what you find behind the entry doors. Such a comprehensive collection of historic memorabilia and it is segregated into individual shops from general store to butcher, cafe and many more so excellently set out. They even have a railway station complete with ticket office, switching house and a full sized historic steam train and coal tender. And if that isn't enough they have a display about our great artesian basin with rock samples from those hollow drills plus a world class lapidary display, historic cars, farm machinery and horse carts. Definitely worth the drive out to spend half a day or all day scoping this place out. It has to be the best historical village in Australia! Don't miss a chance to get out and visit Miles...
