It was a really interesting tour but $30 (seniors) for 48 minutes substantially reduced its appeal. You could read much of the information in Zara Clark Museum for $5.

—————- Update on 4 August

Response to the owner’s response

I did the Venus Gold Battery Tour on Sunday 30 July. It was scheduled to commence at 10am. Looking at the time stamps on photos I took while waiting for the tour, I suspect it started a little late. The last part of the tour was a short video. As soon as the video finished, the guide said words to the effect that the tour had finished and he was off the clock. I was shocked it was such a short tour and immediately looked at my watch. It was 10:48am. The group walked back to the office. A few of us stopped on the way to look at a bower bird, its nest and what it had collected. Those photos are time stamped 10:53am to 10:56am. You will have contacts for the other people on the tour, none of whom I know. I suggest you contact them and ask for the time stamp on their bower bird photos which will also be before 11am. I then walked back to my van, drove the 4km back to Charters Towers township, found a parking space appropriate for a motorhome, walked to the Stock Exchange Cafe, ordered food and paid. The time stamp on the bank statement is 11:25am on 30 July. I encourage you to contact the Stock Exchange Cafe to confirm they have a transaction for $15 at 11:25am on 30 Jul using the same card I used to pay for your tour. Alternatively, I can email you the bank statement if you are prepared to contact me in person.

THOSE EVENTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE IF THE TOUR CONCLUDED AT 11:30AM AS YOU CLAIM.

The Venus Gold Battery Tour I did on Sunday 30 July lasted no more than 48 minutes (and arguably 43 minutes). I paid $30 as a senior for the tour. The information was very interesting, but the tour was rushed, commentary started at each location prior to everyone arriving and there was minimal to no opportunity for questions. On the basis of my experience, the tour is over priced and I would NOT recommend it. I give it 3 out of 5 stars and I am being generous.

Please check your facts before calling me a liar in a public...

We didn't enter as the price of entry was ridiculous considering the tour and then the panning was hours apart with no cafe on the premises to spend 2 hours plus between events. We had been dropped off for the duration and had to walk back into the main town after not entering. So disappointed.

2025 prices $70 for a combination ticket Ridiculous prices for individual tickets I assume they will over haul these prices and running times soon.

Attention PR. After reading your response I am highly offended with your response only in the fact that you were not there when we came in and spoke to a lovely young man. There was no issue, he explained the prices and how its ran, i asked about a cafe and he explained they had water only. This was all that was spoken about on the day.

My review is my opinion on the prices and timetable

We infact stayed for around 3 minutes and left after having a chat. The staff member was friendly and we had a lovely chat about what is offered and he even agreed it would be lovely to have a cafe available there.

Your response is helpful for others reading, which is great, and is what we were told on the day, however your opinion on our conversation was factless and very disappointing 😞 Now I've changed my review to a one star, your PR team needs an overhaul.

2025 almost 1 month later and your reply has been taken down.

Absolutly not...

If you're visiting Charters Towers (or even weren't planning to, but are interested in gold, who isn't?!...for better or worse - often for worse - its history is undeniably interesting), this is definitely worth a visit. We didn't know what to expect, but it was really good - we learnt heaps and it was interesting from start to finish.

Malcolm, the guide had mining industry experience and a real knowledge of local history. He answered all of our questions well...and there were lots of questions! There were also some added creative touches in the tour which were great. Would recommend for all ages (except really...

Such an informative and insightful tour to see behind the scenes of the hard work behind discovery of gold and trying to make a living. John our guide was a wealth of knowledge and answered our many questions. During the 75 minute tour there was an interactive informative story display, so you could understand the history of its prosperous hey day. Make sure to book through the information centre or online, so as to attend the tour to avoid disappointment of missing a tour. Its a must do for anyone with interst in gold, history and of the local area.

A most interesting piece of history but it is slowly falling apart as it does not seem to get any maintenance There is a lot of old machinery in various states of disrepair but the tour guide was great at explaining how it all worked The gold panning experience was good, my wife even got a few specks of gold

Fantastic history about the Gold Rush at Charters Towers. This is an excellent way to understand how gold was extracted and separated from the rock it was trapped in. Definitely worth a visit, even the kids enjoyed it!
