Lake McIntyre near Millicent SA is open daily from 8am till sunset. It was created in 1991 from an old quarry and is now home to 50 species of waterbirds. Other animals such as snakes, turtles and frogs call this area home. Dogs are not permitted to protect the native wildlife. There are three undercover picnic and BBQ areas in the main parking area as well as a number of standalone picnic tables and benches scattered around the reserve. Two bird hides provide for peaceful observing. Also in the main area is an information hut, a viewing platform and two unisex toilets (one is suitable for disabled people). The track around the lake is about 1km and is easy to navigate for those who require a walking aid. It's a fantastic space to relax and watch the birds or enjoy/or a picnic with family and friends. There is a lot of grassed area too and everything is well maintained. Please take all rubbish home as there are no bins provided. Also never feed the birds - human food is not...

This place is amazing. The birdlife is fantastic and ever changing and offers the opportunity for birdwatching and photographing them. There is also other interesting fauna to see. It is amazing to think this was once a quarry which is now converted into one of the best manmade wetlands in the area. There is a walking trail around the lake which is flat and easy to travel. There are a number of seats along the way for you to either rest or enjoy the view. There are two bird hides which are often utilised. There are BBQ and basic toilet facilities, so there is ample opportunity to spend time there with friends to celebrate whatever you want. It is signposted so it is easy to find. If you are lucky, you might even see me there, as I visit it frequently. Highly recommend...

Lake Mcintyre, converted from an old quarry, is now a flawless panoramic lake with a bounty of birds and other wildlife. It provides a sanctuary, just off the highway and on the outskirts of the town for visitors to admire in adulation. The reserve is immaculately clean and cared for, offering a truly picturesque location. Offering free barbeques and picnic sites, toilets and an all day free entry; Lake Mcintyre is a sublime and captivating conversion of a...

Were actually surprised at our first visit. Had no idea about this place until we noticed the signboard while driving back to Mount Gambier from Beachport. It may not be a so called “tourist spot” but definitely a place where you can just breath fresh air and relax watching hundreds of birds. Nice place for a group of people including kids to spend a day and enjoy the BBQ facility under the shady trees.
