Father's Day Car Show. This was a really fun way to spend the day with family and even more so on Fathers Day. I expected it to be busy given the amount of classic and vintage cars that were going to be on show and it was absolutely packed. I hadn't been to Old Gippstown before and it was fun trying to imagine what it was like minus those gorgeous cars scattered everywhere. I'll definitely head back one day when nothing is happening to check the place out, but it looks like a really cute little spot to spend a couple of hours. I would imagine throughout the week parking wouldn't be an issue with many spots available in the front car park. We had about a 10-minute walk from where we finally found somewhere to park, so that wasn't too bad. What was a surprise and also a little disappointing was the minimum 20 minute wait for a coffee from the cafe. Old Gippstown regularly holds weekend events so surely during an event like a car show or anything for that matter the organizers have some idea of how many people are going to be coming through those gates. Which means most of them or at least half of them are going to be headed to the cafe. The cafe staff were doing their best, but they were getting slammed and it was like that for most of the day. Wouldn't it make sense to have a reduced set menu on days where foot traffic is going to be huge? And possibly put some more staff on as well… it's not rocket science. With the many options available on the menu and the amount of people waiting for food and coffee it's a recipe for disaster and very...

This historic town is a collection of authentic buildings dating back from the 1840s through to the 1930s. The site covers 8 acres and features several National Trust classified buildings and one of the best collections of horse-drawn vehicles and farm equipment in Australia. It also includes the Dr Andrew’s (the ’father’ of Yallourn) collection and the Narracan Mechanics’ Institute library. Browse through the main street shops and soak up the atmosphere of Gippsland’s past. Visit the twenty-seven original relocated buildings and their collections such as pioneer Angus McMillan’s “Bushy Park” homestead and “Rhoden’s Halfway House” one of the few remaining Cobb & Co. inns in existence. Displays in the locations are of their era, with a wide range of antique furniture and artefacts. There are also 13 other purpose-built buildings to complete the town. Old Gippstown’s aim is to present the history of Gippsland, for the benefit of the present and future generations by preserving, researching, recording and presenting the unique collections in its care.

Su prenotazione è possibile utilizzare i vari laboratori e vedere i volontari all'opera.

Easy to access only a minute just off the freeway exit. Gorgeous little buildings and landscape. Plenty to see and learn. Staff seemed friendly and positive to interact with. For me, I wasn’t surprised that it was completely dead with very little other people present , they just wasn’t many demonstrations other than the blacksmith. Which is a shame because it’s such an awesome place. I feel like with a couple of extra staff or activities the place would be booming. Cafe was good, service was quick and coffee and snacks were reasonably good. Still worth the visit.

Not as great as other heritage parks I have recently visited but its still quite a nice place to see especially if you are visiting this side of the region. The blacksmith here is full of interesting stories and happy to share all about iron, steel and the works.. My personal favourite still remains 'Coal Creek Heritage Park' at Korumburra. It's got so much to see and it's free. We do suggest to pay something as a donation that goes a long way to run it.

I didn't realise just how much there was to see here! It's on a much larger scale than I anticipated it would be. My family and I enjoyed our time stepping back into Victorian times and would definitely go back there again for another visit. Even the entry fee amazed me at how very reasonable it was. I'd highly recommend spending some quality time at Old Gippstown.
