The Eurobodalla Botanical Gardens are phenomenal. They've clearly been affected greatly by the bushfires, but the walks are still lovely, their rebuilding/rejuvenation is going really well and the remaining burnt trees give a really poignant reminder about the brutal nature of Australian bushfires.
What's particularly amazing is their gift shop and learning spaces however. The electronic microscopes they have with bush samples (anything from quartz to gum leaves and preserved frogs) are fascinating to look at for all ages.
The gift shop is hands down the best gift store I've ever been in. Every item there is fascinating, beautiful, good quality and most is sourced locally. Honestly, I'd say it's worth going to just for the shop if you need to buy souvenirs or presents, but do make sure you enjoy the lovely...
Read moreI visited with my mother today about a year post-bushfire - and we came home with full-bellies (a delicious lentil burger), from such friendly, helpful staff in a beautifully designed restaurant/cafe. The lovel(ies) Heather and Dawne were enthusiastic to answer all our questions, point out the beautiful locally-sourced souvenirs (I bought a bees wax thingy), mum got some lovely local plants and a timber board made by the local 'woodies'. I had a tour of the beautiful conference space. It has stunning light and a great feel. There were some great artefacts of the bushfire - different melted objects and the temperatures they melt at (over 800 degrees for some - see pictures) and an engaging kids corner with easy to use microscope that projected onto a screen. A nice little gem...
Read moreThis is very difficult to review as the place has been ravaged by bushfires. Entry is free of charge. I’ve not had the pleasure of visiting the gardens prior to fires so I don’t have anything to compare it with. I’ve uploaded quite a few pics for people to understand that there’s still so much beauty in this place. Unfortunately there’re many tracks closed, many signs and descriptors burnt. I believe people had seen Kangaroos prior to fires (not sure if anyone has seen since then) but I did come across fresh Kangaroo poo. Visit this place on a nice day and take advantage of the large, quiet place. It’s also a good eye opener to the devastation done by New Years Eve bush fires. They also have a gift...
