A 1.5hr ferry from Brisbane! ๐๐ and an absolutely pristine island.
Did you know they purposely sunk these wrecks?
Makes for good sealife homes and much fun to be had for people who come to visit! ๐
Tips for visiting:
๐ Snorkelling is a short swim offshore. You need to be a confident swimmer to attempt it though. There are tours and kayaks etc available to hire
๐ Stay a night if you can. You can camp or stay in accommodation on the island.
๐ Bring your own food and drinks if possible, there is limited supplies on the island and only a couple places to eat!
๐ Beachfront accommodation available
๐ BYO snorkel gear but it looked like there was some hire places if you prebook
๐ Book the ferry online
TOURS:
Snorkel tours, quad biking, sand boarding, scenic flights, banana boating, clear bottom Kayaking, wreck tours and sea scooters!
This was one of the highlights of our year last year. We went for a Christmas gathering put on by Matt and Liz from Ebusiness institute. Loved it!!
Have you ever snorkelled a shipwreck? Or these wrecks?
We are snorkelling a wreck on our Philippines group trip in March just sayin'! Only a few spots left on our trip ๐ Link is in bio to book your place.

Iโve dived at shipwrecks, but seeing it from the sky at Moreton Island is a WHOLE other perspective! ๐คฉ
The Tangalooma shipwrecks are a group of 15 ships that were sunk on purpose. This was deliberately done because boat owners asked for a way to anchor their boats safely, and the sunken wrecks now provide a break wall, making it safer and easier for anchorage.
The snaking shipwreck looks so magnificent from the sky! The water is such a beautiful clear turquoise and a lucky few might get to see turtles, sharks and dugongs as well! I managed to spot a dugong and I was SO ECSTATIC, if you canโt tell from the video ๐
The wrecks are now home to some GORGEOUS corals, plenty of fish, stingrays and even wobbegong sharks! Youโll probably spot them when snorkelling!
@tangaloomaislandresort organised this helicopter ride and also has guided snorkelling trips to explore the wreck site. Definitely one for the list!

๐Moreton Island tour by See Moreton
1.5hrs from the Rivergate Marina, onboard the Migaloo II, and we arrived at the stunning Tangalooma wrecks. The weather was perfect and our trip across Moreton Bay was very smooth.
Passengers on the boat were divided into two groups and we were in the โDolphinโ group which meant we went snorkelling first while the other group ate lunch.
๐ฌ Before we even dropped anchor we came across a pod of dolphins and stopped to watch them. One even came over to the boat to show off a bit.
๐คฟ We spent 45mins snorkelling the wrecks where there is an abundance of beautiful sea life.
โจ Tip: get in the water first to ensure you have the most time snorkelling.
๐ฝ Once aboard we had a lovely buffet lunch. It included adequate options for everyone. Hello fresh prawns! ๐
๐ We then had about an hour of beach time where the water is so crystal clear and beautiful. This is the time to do what you want: go for a walk, swim or use one of the courtesy kayaks.
๐ข Before departing the island we spotted a few turtles and watched and waited for them to come up for a breath.
๐ป The captain and crew were fantastic and friendly.
๐น All in all a great family day out. We even got the teenager to come with us! ๐๐ผ

AMAZING...... all round. Day trip - Ferry trip across approx $50-60 return per person includes a drink on board, adults receive a $20 food voucher, and kids receive a $15 food voucher to spend on the island. Boat trip across aprox 75mins with commentary and great staff to assist you. You are allowed to use most facilities in the resort, including the pool, basket ball courts, tables with shades, and pergolas all-round to use. Great food from the beach cafe. We took our own snorkel gear. Hired a see-through 2 person kayak for an hr so we could see a bit more of the wrecks. Very strong current, so unless you are a strong swimmer, don't do it without a guide or kayak. They have a lot of extra activities, such as Segway on sand, 4 wheeler sand bikes, guided kyak and snorkel tours, helicopter joy flights and a whole lot more. Beautiful beach with pristine sand. It was such a great day trip, and I can't wait to go back with the family again. โค๏ธ

We set of at dawn from Manly, Qld for a day of the best bay experience ever ๐
Our first morning stop was the middle of Moreton Bay to take-in the sunrise ๐
Next we did some fishing ๐ฃ
Followed by a stop at the Tangalooma camp site for the most gorgeous BBQ lunch. A simple gas cooker, some ๐ญ๐ง๐ in the most gorgeous setting on the sand, under the shade of the trees ๐ณ taking in the view of the beautiful, clear, blue water of the Island.
We walked to the sand dunes and I was in awe of how vast, silent and pristine white the sand was. As it was an off-peak week day, it was awesome to just have the two of us sitting in this wide open space taking in what mother nature creates.
We then made our way to the ship wrecks at the resort, which were a mix of interesting, disturbing litter and of purpose to conservation, however captivating at the same time.
We truly live in such an awesome part of the world ๐ which I never, ever take for granted!!
