Craigs hut should be one of Australia's top 10 places to travel. I must go to its free and costs $0. Its kepped together and matained by the national VIC hut Association and they do a fantastic job maintaining huts from Mt Buller all the way through to Dargo Omeo and push through to Jindabyne. This is a must travel to do for any four-wheel driver or visitor from Australia can I apply anyone from overseas to come and take on a journey over 4 days and see the best landscape bush and scrub I've ever seen. Craigs Hut was used in the man from the Snowy River icon movie back in 1980 and the Hutt was rebuilt twice after destroyed by bushfires. This is one of the icon huts set up for all the other huts designed Bushwalkers for drivers and skiers. To access Craigs Hut the best way is from Mt Buller ski park up a wine d Road 12 km to the hut or take an adventure through Dargo and see one of the best Victoria High Country...
Read moreWe visited Craig's Hut when the roads up there were closed to 4WD for the season. We felt like we had the whole park to ourselves and only ran into 2 other groups of walkers over the 2 days. We walked from Telephone box junction to Craig's Hut on the first day, and back the next. Total time was about 4 hours each way. Keeping in mind we did stop a lot and had heavy packs on. The track says 10kms but I clocked 17kms on the first day and a little less on the way back. The trails are for skiing in the winter and driving in the summer, so they aren't exactly picturesque. At this time of year (October) there was still a little snow and therefore some mud. Plenty of uphill to test your fitness too. Lots of little huts to see along the way which are also open for camping if the weather isn't playing ball. All in all a lovely walk, saw lots of...
Read moreTravelled to Craigs Hut on Sat 11th March the weather was spot on. It was a long weekend and very busy. When travelling there the climb is fairly steep and rough in places so a good heavy car is better suited. It is 30kms to the hut so allow approx 2 hours plus for the return trip. The track is fairly narrow so stay on your side of the road as there are alot of blind corners. There are toilets, tables, benches and good parking at the top. It looks like people have camped up there so if you want to do that check with the kiosk at the bottom before the climb (great coffee) or with the national parks. We came across a few cattle on the track and there is nowhere for them to run to so be aware of that. after all that it is well worth the trip, the views are second to none. TRAVEL SAFF, ENJOY & RESPECT...
