The Russell Falls, Tall Trees, Lady Barron watetfall circuit passes through fern filled rainforest and woodlands containing the famous giant swamp gums.

There are three waterfalls, Russell, Horseshoe and Lady Barron, to take in.

Russell is on the coach tour itineries and can be busy but the long flight of stairs to the top of the falls and the start of the Tall Trees circuit thins the crowd quickly.

If you don't have the time, or the inclination, for the additional 40 minute walk back to the visitor centre via Lady Barron falls, just complete the Tall Trees circuit and return via Russell falls.

The path to Lady Barron falls is a bit rougher than the more travelled paths to Russell and Tall Trees but it is well maintained. There is a long staircase section about two thirds of the way in.

The whole circuit took us about three hours at a very leisurely pace.

The cafe at the visitor centre does decent coffee and a...

Reviewing the walk beginning near campgrounds, to Lady Barron Falls then return same way (not circuit). First ten mins of walk is quite steep & somewhat muddy, flat for a bit as you walk through the bush, then approx 240 stairs down to the forest floor which is beautiful. Mostly flat track along the edge of the river until you reach the falls. We took 50mins each way, at a moderate pace (not 40mins as sign suggests). Falls were lovely & certainly had more water than Russell Falls (somehow). From LB falls, you can continue the loop for an hour back to the visitor center or return same way (as we did) which is shorter, though keep in mind the climb of 240 stairs 😉 Visited mid-morning on a Sunday in winter & only passed 3 other people, so was...

This is waterfall that can be visited by way of a direct out-and-back trail or as part of a longer 'Three Falls Circuit' that starts with the Russell Falls Short Walk, linking up with Horseshoe Falls and the Tall Trees Trail to form a circular loop track to/from the Mount Fields National Park Visitor Centre.

We liked the Lady Baron Falls best of the three falls visited on the Circuit track. It had the most water on the day, surprisingly being more impressive than the much more famous Russell Falls, at least on the early May...

This fall's is part of the Mount National Park so you'll need a National Park Pass to enter. We started from Mount Field Visitor centre and did a loop - I think it took us less than 2 hours to complete the loop though. There are a fair amount of stairs but I'd say it's quite an easy walk where it's good to bring kids and the elderly as long as they have basic stamina. The falls itself all looks pretty similar and decent, but the walk itself is quite well maintained and the national park is definitely worth visiting.
