I was actually really disappointed with this place. The birds were beautiful and flew to the fronts to interact but many of them have plucked at themselves and were shivering. Seeing them in just the row of smaller aviarys was sad. There is so much room for improvement! It could be amazing on the size of land they have.

The "maze" was very small and over in less than 2 minutes.

The mini golf was "under construction"

The "animatronic dinosaur display" was just one large dinosaur (not animatronic, just had a sound come out of speakers nearby when u walked near) and 2 small dinosaurs (also didnt move. One made a noise the other didnt)

The fish feed was cool, my son loved it and the fossil sandpit did make him interested.

The boardwalk did have a grit painted on it to help with grip, but no signs at all about being slippery when wet. My elderly mother had one foot slightly off the grit to take a photo and slipped over and fell right on her back. When we mentioned to the lady at the desk she just said "thats why we have the grit" she didnt even ask if mum was ok. Didnt offer an incident report. Nothing. There should be signage.

Thankfully she is only bruised and a bit sore. It could have been alot worse if someone wasnt as fit and healthy as my mother.

I would not recommend this place for someone with small kids or anyone with any mobility issues!

And $17 per adult when theres no mini golf available. Only 3 dinosaur statues (2 that make sound) and birds in cages was not worth it...

One of that places i was most looking forward to in ballarat and it did not disappoint. Owners are obviously in it for the love of the birds and not to get rich quick. The grounds are absolutely breath taking. The added bonus of free fish food and a treasure hunt in the maze promising a choice of prize at the end made it all the more fun. If it hadn't been for the treasure hunt my 11yo would have been over the maze very quickly. As it was, our initial trip though the maze was fruitless, so Jesse organised the 3 of us and sent us in 3 different directions. This meant when someone found one we then had to find each other🤣. We had a great time. I had kept the dinosaurs a secret from my 6yo and he was so excited to find them! I didn't realise they moved and had noise! They're fantastic. Feeding fish was really fun too watching them jump for the food. All of this before we even saw a bird. I love birds and could watch them all day long. You have so many different parrots and they all look so healthy, inquisitive and happy. It was delightful to be allowed to meet the black cockatoo and it's a photo i will treasure. The gift shop was full of appropriate and lovely items shuck again, were very reasonably priced as was the cafe. Despite plans to move on we stayed for iced and hot chocolates after choosing our maze prizes and buying things. I'll definitely be back if we're in...

Great Family Value and personal interaction with birds.

We're a family touring from sydney in school holidays and visited Ballarat Bird World on the 7th january 2013.This Bird World is soon to celebrate 40 years and it is still run by the original owners Paul and Joan who are now in their 80's. The bird park is in need of some minor repair to the netting of one of the Avery's, as others have stated, however just spending time with Paul & Joan, their birds and their knowledge is well worth the visit.

Our son 9 and daughter 16 were thrilled when Paul invited us into the black cockatoo bird avery where they got to interact with a beautiful big black male cockatoo who was so friendly and gentle he would sit on our arms, shoulders and even head! There is also a great variety of colourful different parrots and a number of them talk and mimic. Kids will have a Wonderful time at this place as it doesn't take a long time to walk around and Paul has catered for, on many occasions persons with physical and intellectual disabilities where he lets them interact with his favourite black cockatoo.

The family cost of $30 (2 adults & 2 children) is great value for money for the one on one experience you get....

A lovely family-owned bird park with friendly staff. It is a good one hour walk with the aviaries housing the black cockatoos, major Mitchell’s and several other local natives. There are also some eclectus and conures. The huge walk through aviary was awesome with the birds chirping happily around. The highlight of the trip is no doubt the encounter with the black cockatoos. We were introduced to “little bugga” the male red tail black cockatoo who is such a sweetheart. Despite his size and strong beak, he is very tame and friendly going from our shoulder to our head with no hesitation. All of us were thrilled with this up close and personal experience with such a magnificent bird. The bird world also has new additions such as the opening of the cafe and the introduction of the animatronic dinosaurs which also provided a talking point as we walk through the park. Thank you for an amazing afternoon. We all enjoyed it immensely. We will definitely be back. 😊😊😊

Lots of parrot species here which is why I chose to visit. Not a lot of visitors on this particular day, which gave me the opportunity to capture my shots. l am fascinated by Black Cockatoos and there was a good number of Red Tail Blacks male female and juvenile, and two rather shy Yellow Tail Black. Expected to hear a lot of shrieking and screeching but there wasn't much. There were also lots of other parrots including some non Australian varieties as well. If colourful birds are your thing, you won't be disappointed, and the cheeky Rainbow Lorikeets were everywhere on the day I visited. Incidentally they also have a nice range of hot meals available and beverages. Expect to spend around an hour and half to two hours, and there is a large pond with rainbow trout and lots of ducks, animatronic dinosaur, a maze and mini golf. Nice outing for families, and people like myself interested in birds.
