It's a really nice, out of the way quiet area, but it is getting more popular as a place to visit on weekends. The scenery is lovely, the history behind the place is a bit sad, but overall, a lovely place to visit. Dogs are allowed on a leash. The lake is deep, dark and murky, creating almost a mirror which makes for beautiful, haunting photos, particularly when the mists are rolling through (pretty much this time of year - May through to about October). Easy walk for kids, its only about 5-10mins from the carpark (our toddler was fine). Lots of birdlife around. Quite a bit of bracken fern and greenery, as the moss gets good moisture in the Macedons. Just be very mindful of leeches as they are everywhere, not just the water (don't swim here, it's not allowed but you'll regret the hundreds of leeches). Cover up your skin and do a quick once over once you're back in the car to make sure you haven't got...

You can have a picnic here, but there’s only bench at the corner of the lake. In the evening you can even spot on Kangaroos if...

We downloaded the audio accompaniment from the visit Macedon ranges website and so our lake and surrounds walk was guided by a unique combination of music, soundscape, science/history facts and direction instructions. Highly...
