What a stunning area to be in! If you're a nature photographer or a worshipper of the Gram, you need to visit when it's in season. Sadly this garden of Eden isn't open all year round, and is only open for a few weeks in Autumn and Spring. We were fortunate to have found out about it and visited before this round of Autumn closed.
It's located on Mount Wilson and the land is next to other large gardens in the area, a few minutes drive away. Do keep in mind that Breenhold itself is 45 hectares. It's quite vast and you can definitely get lost in there as my partner and I have by mistake. You do get a map as you get in, but they're a rough guideline as there aren't any area markings. I would suggest planning your day to get there early enough to get a good walk around not only this garden, but the ones next door as well. Then in the evening, race to a lookout point for the sunset! It is every photographer's wet dream.
Breenhold is surprisingly stunning. The Autumn colours can be seen the moment you drive into the area. Do not be alarmed by the horde of tourists though, they do move around once they've got their gram photos. Plenty of gorgeous flowers, trees and birds can be found in the area. Do not however wander too far in as it just turns to your typical blue mountain bush land. The outer path consumes a large amount of time and is a pretty boring trail, where the lookout points are merely drop off cliffs. It's nothing special and not worth the effort. I'd suggest sticking to the main garden area and then moving to one of the other gardens.
Plenty of parking down the main road, though when it's busy you may have to drive a little further down. Entry was $12.50 each.
Overall a trip we enjoyed and we'll definitely be planning to go back to check out the...
Read moremixed reviews about this place when we visited. we arrived late on saturday on the last weekend with the autumn falls thinking maybe we might be on the end of people leaving but the place is pretty packed so you might have a walk a little bit depending on where you find parking on the main road.
walking to the place on the main road you can see the autumn leaves on the side from the trees which was nice. Upon arriving you need to pay $17.50 and i think it was $5 for kids above 6+ years? (upon leaving the sign on the back you can see the original price was $7 for adults which just shows how much sydney prices due to inflation and anything else has made things a bit more expensive nowadays)
we got inside and had to go toilet, they have a structure for it and on the other side of the road is portaloo. Very small to accommodate the amount of people coming. Anyhow we had our toddlers and because of the cold, i dont think they were keen on walking so we didn't do much but from the parts we saw the place is alright. I would highly recommend a thick jacket even if its sunny during this time because of its location towards the mountains. Due to the location, its also nice to have some fresh air with the coolness :)
overall, would I come back again? maybe not, I'd check out botanical gardens which was on the way here and looks free. but as a first time its not bad to check it out as well too. If planning to eat here, then yeah bring a picnic blanket so you can have a nice chill time in the gardens when...
