Went in to see how it all started and to c what it was like many years ago to find gold and to see how they use to do the gold poors (it's not real gold they poor now) it's just to show the public how it was done. If u want to feel the weight of gold out the front in the shop, just ask the girls, there's a bit worth $3800 I think from memory, but can't remember the ounces. Be at the foundary 20 minutes b4 11am if u want to sit on the bench to watch, b close to the first lot in, as if Ur late and get put on the other side u won't see ad much. The side u walk in to the shed has a mirror hanging up from the roof to see it all going on. But the other side seats don't have that yet? The old guy will come around with the old protective helmet for the kids to have a pic taken with it on if u like. Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed our time here at Hannans. The first thing we noticed was how welcoming the staff were at entry. As we entered the area, it soon dawned on us that there was a lot to see and we had not allowed enough time. We were committed to an appointment in town, so the staff allowed us to re-enter later that same day to continue our tour. Lots of highlights, especially being able to climb the big trucks at the front and was amazed how clean they were. Thankyou Hannans for allowing the public to access that equipment. Bit of a bucket list item to be able to do that 💪 Ongoing, we spent approximately 2 hours there that afternoon. The history was just great to read. We are from the East Coast of NSW and were so unaware of the Kalgoorlie history. Well done to all concerned at this venue. The only reason for not the 5 stars ...... No cafe. But hey, don't be offended by that. Truly a great place to see. Extremely...
Read moreA lovely visit to historic open air historic mine museum. Well laid out so we could wander around and look at all the old homes, offices, machinery and facilities of life on the Goldfields. A map was provided so we could take our time to explore. Some of the attractions also had short videos to watch. The best experience was getting up close to the massive trucks that are used at the mines and being able to climb up into them which is something I've always wanted to do. The Chinese Garden of Remembrance , built in recognition of the Chinese miners and other immigrant prospectors who had come to this place was a surprisingly tranquil place in the midst of the mine site. We were not aware of this attraction before coming to Kalgoorlie and only noticed the reference to it at the 'Super Pit' Limit. So definitely a must do if you're...
