Great little walk for a pit stop to stretch the legs. Lots of steps at the start but after the initial climb it’s a pretty flat track. 2 hour round trip with a 4 year old (a bit slow on the way back) Lots of rest points and picnic tables along the track - but no tables at the car park. The walk was pleasant with information panels. The burning mountain itself was interesting to see - you could see heat waves and a few points with steam, one right at the viewing platform. The steam would become visible whenever a slight breeze would occur. Lots of kangaroos around and heaps of bird life. Winter is best for this walk, not only temp wise but the kangaroos hang around the mountain to stay warm. Didnt smell too much - wasn’t a pleasant smell but it’s not like you’re gagging.

A good 4.6km return trek if you want some exercise, but not much of a burning view when you get to the viewing platform. You can see some heat waves radiating from where the coal seam is burning. Maybe if you ventured up there as it was getting dark, you might see some flames or a nice glow. It's probably not a bad day out for an active family if you were to take a packed lunch with you as there are a couple of picnic tables along the trail. ⚠️ Caution: There is a strong smell of sulphur at the viewing platform that may affect those with breathing issues.

It's a fairly long walk, you have to keep on walking until you reach a well constructed platform to view the burning area, it has a coal fire smell with a hint of sulfur, didn't see any smoke, the deserlate mountain ground is discoloured with iron oxides devoid of any plants. It's worth going for a look 3.5 stars. The walk is a bit hilly with steep steps that eventually flattens out. Take a hat and water.. note no potable water on-site and toilets with a tank.

A nice stop at the side of the road when you are travelling through and want to relax your legs on a short hike. Be prepared to expect funny fumes smelling like rotten eggs during the hike...the smell of H2S. The charcoal layer inside the mountain is indeed still burning! Two basic, but clean toilets are supplied in the parking area and non potable water, though it looks like the Council has forgotten about the place: The only wooden seatbench was broken and the benches in the little information pavillon full of bird sh®® This place could look much nicer with some more love and Council attention - no big...
