Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park – A Coastal Haven in Western Australia Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park is a spectacular national park located in the southwest of Western Australia, covering an area of over 50,000 hectares. Stretching along the scenic coastline from Cape Leeuwin to Cape Naturaliste, the park is known for its dramatic cliffs, sandy beaches, lush forests, and diverse ecosystems, making it a haven for nature lovers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts.

The park is famous for its stunning coastal landscapes, including the Leeuwin and Naturaliste Lighthouses, which offer panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. It is also home to unique coastal heathlands, dense karri forests, and wetlands, providing a rich habitat for a variety of wildlife, including kangaroos, koalas, and a variety of bird species.

Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park offers several walking trails, including the famous Cape to Cape Track, which spans 135 kilometers and allows hikers to experience the full beauty of the park's coastline. The park is also popular for its pristine beaches, making it an ideal destination for swimming, snorkeling, and whale watching, particularly during the migratory season.

This is a free access national park that stretches the length of the southwest corner of WA from the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse (north) to the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse (south), taking in around 120km of beautiful coastline dotted with interesting rock formations, pristine beaches, caves, heavily wooded forests as well as the famous Margaret River wine country.

We stayed several nights in Margaret River and enjoyed time exploring the national park for several days. There is good hiking available. We particularly enjoyed the Meelup Trail in the north near Cape Naturaliste. The beaches are beautiful, Hamelin Beach in particular is fun to visit as there are stingrays that cruise the shallows that you can see up close. Lots of good wine and food in the region as well.

Overall, very much enjoyed our days within and around Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park. Along with Margaret River activities, this is a great outdoor area with plenty to do/see/taste/try for pretty much anyone. Very much looking forward to...

Quite accessible from the end of Bunker Bay road. Initially the trails are quite open, but they really close up with vegetation the further away from the carpark. They aren't paved nor are steps made in the hill, so those with concerns about mobility need to think about this one. This does give it a more "bush" feel. The path is actually well marked out and there is little danger of getting lost. From several points on the walks the cliffs can be seen, breaking up the scenery. You may be tempted to take one of the unofficial paths to cliffs, but they are potentially hazardous as some have a pronounced overhang. It doesn't take long before civilization is well out of sight, amplifying the "getting...

3 bears track - great track for a MTB. Some decent climbs, 400m over the 15kms from Sugarloaf to Yallingup. In winter the track is pretty compacted and the deeper wheel ruts hold their shape. So skinnier wheeled MTBs are fine. Summer it is a lot softer so you would probably require a fat bike. Fun ride with the 3 bears car park being a great spot for a break (has drop toilet too). I prefer to get dropped at sugarloaf road and then ride to Yallingup. You can get to Dunsborough along the shoulder and the various single track along the road.

The visit to the park was exciting. Flame height was about 15m . Smoke was intense requiring the wearing of smoke masks,a novel experience. Noise from low flying planes was constant and they appeared to be cloud seeding as water fell from the sky on each pass. Facilities were not good. Water supplies were outside the park required six trips outside the park and roads were rough being only an hour old ,in fact we were stuck behind the bulldozer for an hour. Overall the visit of eight hours was enjoyable.
