The trail to the lookout was a fantastic experience. The mix of stairs and ladders added a fun and adventurous element to the walk, making it both engaging and memorable. While the track can be a little challenging in parts, it’s still very manageable for most people with a moderate fitness level. The lookout at the summit is absolutely phenomenal, offering breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains and hills. The radio mast and the historic towerman’s observatory at the top were fascinating features, and the towerman’s hut at the base of the trail adds a unique historical touch. Toilets were average, as expected for drop toilets, but bonus points for having hand sanitiser available. Parking was easy and hassle-free. In my opinion, this is an absolute must-visit. It’s easily one of the best lookouts in the region and well worth the effort to reach the top. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There are actually 2 lookout points here. One is relatively easy to get to and has a great viewing platform. From here, you can see the wide expanse of the Mount Frankland National Park. However, this lookout point is not that high up. For those craving for a more challenging hike (and a better view), you can continue to follow the trail all the way up to the peak. There is a tower here and I think the ranger on duty here is responsible for spotting potential bush fires and providing an early warning to the authorities for their action. From this vantage point, one can see a complete 360 view of the entire national park and beyond. The vista is breathtaking 😍. To me, the view alone is worth all the panting and puffing whilst we climb the steps to reach up here. The wind is strong here as well and it cools us down after all the sweaty ascent.it was truly a worthwhile adventure.

Feb/March 2023. Last time we were here it was Winter and the mountain was shrouded with cloud so there was no view other than whiteness. This year we came in Summer, and were delighted with the view of the wilderness to the horizon. It was worth the 27km drive along the corrugated dirt road. Best for me though was taking the 1.5km Caldyanup Trail from the Soho Lookout back to the carpark (Towerman's Hut). Though the narrow trail was covered with fallen dried gum leaves which made parts quite slippery, it provided an opportunity to see more of the Mountain and the trees up close.

Amazing views from Mount Franklin. The last few kilometres of the approach road are gravel, but it's well maintained, level and wide enough for two cars. Just follow the signs and avoid the short cut track recommended by sat. nav. There's a fair sized car park, toilet and unmanned visitor centre with good information boards and maps. And it's free to park and enter. Thanks 😀 There are two viewpoints. An easy access lower viewpoint which is approached by a good level 300m walkway, suitable for wheelchairs. And a more strenuous uphill walk and 300 steps up to the top of Mount Franklin. There are places to take a breather on the way up and to catch great views as well as your breath. The lower viewpoint has fabulous views over the Walpole Wilderness. But the views from the top of Mount Franklin are breathtaking with a 360 degree view of the whole area. It was well worth the extra effort to get to the top. Slow a couple of hours to have enough time to enjoy it properly. We were so glad we visited it....
