The Southern Rock Hole was probably my favourite waterfall out of Litchfield, Edith Falls and Katherine Gorge. You can catch a ferry there and back for $15 one way. Or you can walk which is a couple of hours. Or you can walk one way and ferry back. It has heaps of shade and places to sit down and relax. It doesnt really get that hot, even in the hottest part of the day! The water is clear and is so refreshing to swim in. I went in the wet season and it wasnt busy at all. I imagine that it would be extremely busy in the dry. BUT! definitely worth seeing!! I will be visiting again for sure.

A great wet season destination, and conveniently connected by Nitmiluk ferry from the Visitor Centre, or an hour hike over moderate terrain. It can get crowded on the weekends, but if you take the 11am ferry in and wait until after the return trip at 12:30pm, you may have the entire swimming hole to yourself (and then just hike back). Also be aware that parts of the river entrance require decent rock scrambling skills and the rocks near the swimming hole can also be slippery and tricky. Take great care, bring a picnic, and enjoy the hike (and wonderful waterfalls).

Absolutely lovely, perfect for a dip after a long bushwalk in the heat. In wet season there's a small waterfall running into it too. Don't forget to bring insect repellent and a netted hat or at the very least something to swat the flies with or they'll drive you mad on the walk there.

So the lady at the info Centre said it was open and safe and that’s the only place to swim which she likes doing herself very much.

After walking all the way just to swim in there - it was closed.

More annoying there is a reason it’s closed-crocs. I could have gone further without seeing the sign, trusting the this staff.

They should have been more careful giving the...
