Hanging Rock is a based upon an extinct volcano where that its present form is caused by wind and rain erosion. Captivated by the famous novel and movie "Picnic at Hanging Rock" this place brings in tourists from far and wide.

There have been a number of greats and bads that needed to be identified and hopefully rectified. They are as follows:

𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 I would say that close to all tourists come to Hanging Rock using the various signage. There was one signage that showed an exit on the Calder Freeway 5km from the exit. That was the only signage and I was expecting one when to exit. You guessed it... there was none and I missed the turn and had to travel quite a distance because it was unsafe to get off.

𝗙𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀 The $10.00 per car fee seems to adequate however and I am willing to pay for it however there were a few issues which I will detailed later.

𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗳𝗲́ Reasonable amenities which were in fact clean. The café could sell a few more items such as oil for the barbecue which they could profited very much for stupid tourists forgetting things. There coffees were nice however for the price against the taste, it wasn't that great.

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 This seems to be a government problem that is spanning across this country. When people come to Hanging Rock, they wish climb he rock. It now appears that they get a hint of a wind and they close off the access to the single attraction that people come across the world to do.

Now I believe that we seems to be living in the age of litigation and profiteering where use the the local weather forecast which has on a number of occasions to be creating grievous errors and they claim that this is for safety. Sorry rangers that this is "government bureaucratic speech" and the real reasons are that you do not wish to be involved in a litigation case ergo covering your rear ends.

I personally was willing to accept the risks involved and make this a condition that climbing the structure is dangerous and you do this upon your own risks. Why spoil the fun from everyone whom travelled far and wide to come here and be turned away without any such compensation.

𝗜𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 The place itself is wonderful however there seems to be a wonderful duck-ups from what it appears stemming from various government departments and was offered 𝗻𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 when turned away at the gate especially with the high costs of fuel to disappointments from children whom were living the fantasies of a book freshly implanted from a Victorian novel...

Great family visit location only a short drive (about 1 hour) from Melbourne. Remember to keep a look out for the exit from the Freeway, the signage could be better. There is a sign indicating the exit is a KM or two coming up, but when you get to the appropriate exit there is no sign indicating Hanging Rock "This EXIT". When you do get to the park there are automatic gates which open when your car reaches the boom gate. You get your $10 ticket to exit the park from the automatic dispensing machine next to the cafe. Prices for parking may vary for special occasions. Climbing the rock is via a ramp (for prams or wheel chairs) or via steps. Both take about the same time. Signage indicates you shouldn't climb rocky out crops, but people do. You can see everything without climbing any of the rocky outcrops (and taking the chance or falling and hurting your self or anyone else). The Discovery centre is full of interesting exhibits, and also provides a tunnel for the kids to climb through. We visited the Rock one weekend and finished every thing within 90 minutes (a flying visit), but we would have loved to spend lots more time there. Over all the Park is a great site to explore and very well kept so the $10 entry is...

It was a pretty good experience as it is my first hiking experience. With friends it becomes even more exciting. Highly recommend visiting it at least once. The walk is about 1.5 kms and is steep at certain points. Very scenic views from the top and a few intermediate stops have vista points.

Great place to hangout with groups. Kids would love the museum and the displays. No entry charge for the museum. The only fee you pay is the parking fee, which is $10 flat for whole day, payable at the time of exit at the cafe. Number of wallabies and parrots to keep young kids excited.
