Beautiful and serene place, best experienced in late Spring or Summer when the Oak leaves are at their largest (unlike us when we visited in early Spring). On the downside, the dirt road is woefully bad and full of potholes so drive slowly and carefully. Toilet facilities are also not worth mentioning as they are 3rd rate at best. Probably better to avoid using them at all....no toilet paper or sanitary hand wash anyway. But, the site is a wonderful place, worth every minute to experience.

Great Free camp not many spots. Busy with day MTB people and on weekends. Nice fireplaces to cook on. Interesting history Back in 1900, the Lands Department cleared 20 acres at Picnic Gully and planted a variety of oaks, mostly Valonia Oaks. The venture was aimed at providing acorns in large quantities for the local tanning industry. Although the Valonia Oaks are mostly gone, some of the other oaks became well established, thriving to this day.

Great place for a day trip. Camp grounds with restrooms a bit of a walk away. Get lost in the oak tree plantation, and make your way through the camp site to the other side of the forest dappled with granite boulders, a running stream and look out for some funky funji. 🍄
