It really lacks that feeling of fun and excitement that a Zoo normally makes you and especially the children feel.. you get through the park very quickly..

I understand that it's a smaller park but some major improvements are needed here for its own benefits..

The animals are almost dormant all of the time. We have not yet seen any of the Lions roam or walk around in ANY of our visits including this one again!! The giraffes are always up in the back corner. We are starting to think all the crocodiles are stone as they seem to be laying in the same spot as they were the last time visited.. (we know they probably aren't but....)

I suggest some informative talks and shows at some of the enclosures, feeding time with the crocs and other animals.. maybe some fun stuff for kids to interact with.. walk around with the Koalas 🐨, just anything!!

I find enclosures are boring and very desert 🏜 looking with the bare minimal.. It makes you feel sorry for some of the animals in way that they are just stuck behind a fence or glass wall.. some we wondered where their water supply was!!!

The Cafe staff are very friendly and the food is cooked quickly. Nice area with covered bench tables to sit at near the Cafe to have a bite to eat or rest. The park entry fees are very expensive for what's on offer.. We love to support our local venues but we do leave quite disappointed each visit here... but we do...

Hunter Valley Wildlife Park is a wonderful place to visit if you are a nature lover or just looking for a fun day out. The staff at the park are amazing, friendly, and knowledgeable, and they go above and beyond to make sure that visitors have a great experience. From feeding the squirrel monkeys to seeing the majestic lion, giraffes, and meerkats, there is plenty to see and do at this park.

One of the highlights of the park is the opportunity to feed kangaroos, which is an unforgettable experience that visitors of all ages will enjoy. Additionally, visitors can also see a wide variety of other animals, including Koloa, meerkats, and giraffes. The park provides an up-close and personal experience with these animals, allowing visitors to learn about their behaviors and habitats.

Another great aspect of the park is that visitors can bring their own food and cook at the barbecue facilities provided or visit the onsite café for refreshments. This makes it a great place for a picnic or a day out with family and friends.

Overall, Hunter Valley Wildlife Park is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for an unforgettable wildlife experience. The park's great staff, diverse range of animals, and unique opportunities to feed and interact with them make it a perfect day out for people...

My partner and I went to the zoo for my birthday, thinking it would be very small and only take an hour or 2 out of our day and have some basic animals and enclosures.

We were wrong, it was brilliant!

We ended up staying for the better part of 5 hours. It was larger than we imagined, and the animal talks were spaced evenly and well timed. All the keepers were super knowledgeable about their animals and had time to answer any questions and chat. They were really friendly also!

Since tourist season had finished there weren't many people there either, so there were no crowds to battle with, and we had no difficulty getting up close to the enclosures.

We did visit on quite a hot day and definitely didn't take enough water. There are cool drinks available for purchase etc but I'd recommend making sure you have plenty of iced water, especially if you're taking children in the middle of the day. Also be sure to keep up with sunscreen applications, I got a little burnt because I lost track of time and we were standing in the sun quite a lot.

Overall it was an incredibly positive experience for only $30 and we will visit again if we come back to the Hunter Valley!

Thanks to all the keepers and staff for making our visit...

This place is fantastic! We've been to lots of zoo's and this one is almost perfect. The animals are interesting, the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and the layout of the enclosures is easy to get around without long walks in between. The animals appear happy and well cared for in some very well built habitats. The shows and talks are very good although the sound can be hard to hear clearly if you are not close to the zoo keeper speaking, so don't be late to a talk. The walkways are free flowing gravel paths which is nicer than structured concrete Luke some zoo's, however the gravel makes it hard to push a stroller. You could rush around in less than 2 hours but it's much better to spend 4 hours and see the shows. There are free BBQ areas and picnic tables which is a fantastic resource if you get organised and take a packed lunch in an esky. There are pies and sausage rolls available but it would be great if they had a little more for those that couldn't bring lunch. Entry fees are very reasonable for the quality of the zoo. Our kids had a ball and haven't stopped talking about the zoo and playing zoo keeper games at home!

What a hidden gem. This zoo found only about 40minutes from Newcastle is big enough to be interesting yet small enough to easily get around and see everything. Friendly, happy, informative staff. Delighted to see a range of birds, monkeys, lions, koalas and camels, alligators and owls, meerkats and albino wallabies. What a range!! The white lions show was impressive. Admission price is so reasonable too. We went on the hottest 38degrees day and got caught in a severe storm yet managed to stay dry because there are plenty of shelters scattered around plus tables and bbqs to use. The enclosures seemed close up so you can really enjoy watching the animals facial expressions as well. So many highlights too many to include. We brought 2 international guests with us who could not speak English and they were equally as thrilled as our 4 year old to see the koala so close up and the many peacocks wandering around displaying his impressive spray of feathers. There is even a fully white peacock! A must visit especially for families.
