When I first arrived at Lake Macdonnell, it looked like a natural wonder! It’s so beautiful! I truly regretted not having a drone with me in this trip. I could have taken some cool drone photoshots! Don’t forget to take yours if you’re visiting this beauty. High in salt concentration, the lake gives the impression of a salmon pink lake on clear days. One side of the causeway is Pink Lake, the other side is Green Lake and further down over the small bridge is the Blue Lake. Why this lake is pink: The Pink Lake is caused by salt loving algae called dunaliella salina and bacteria called halobacteria that secrete carotenoid red pigments, that turns the water bright pink.

Lovely place. Most famous pink lake in outback Australia. It’s in Every travellers’ To Do list for sure. If you are lucky, you will get to see the pink when it has few inches of water. If it’s dry it becomes pure white. If it’s full that’s when you get to see the beauty. Harsh place. But east to travel to. Sure to visit the shops n spend your dollars there. Bc of them we can go n visit this place. Nice people. Enjoyed every second in it. If you go all the way to the tip be sure to go on a 4WD with a winch. Or you will get stuck on those Sandy roads. N not many people are around in that area. Also have a walkie talkie coz the there is no reception for you to call.

Driving on Point Sinclair road through the 2 lakes was a surreal experiences to say the least. Its a really remote area with no mobile data, however there are campsites with good facilities nearby. Unfortunately the lake was only pink if you are a bird, for the rest of us it was just a yellowish brown colour. We visited in early November.

Not bright pink at this time of the year anymore but still beautiful. The road is full of holes but as long as you drive slow (which you should because the landscape is breathtaking) everything is alright! I wouldn't drive there with a normal car though. 4x4 or up.. Cactus beach is amazing as well and just about 4 km further down the road with a...
