Kings Canyon – A Majestic Natural Wonder Kings Canyon, located in the heart of the Watarrka National Park in the Northern Territory of Australia, is one of the country’s most striking and dramatic landscapes. The canyon is a breathtaking gorge carved into the rugged landscape of the West MacDonnell Ranges, offering stunning views, impressive cliffs, and diverse wildlife.
The most popular way to explore Kings Canyon is by hiking the Rim Walk, a 6-kilometer trail that takes you around the edge of the canyon, providing panoramic views of the surrounding desert landscape and the canyon floor below. The walk also leads to the Garden of Eden, a lush waterhole surrounded by towering cliffs, offering a serene contrast to the surrounding arid environment.
For those seeking a more challenging adventure, the Creek Bed Walk offers a closer look at the canyon floor, where ancient rock formations and local flora can be explored in greater detail. The area is home to diverse plant and animal life, including rare species of birds and reptiles, making it a great spot for nature lovers and photographers.
Kings Canyon is a must-visit for anyone exploring the Australian outback, offering a perfect blend of adventure, natural beauty, and cultural significance. Its remote location, combined with its impressive geological features, makes it a unique and unforgettable...
Read moreI did the Rim Walk. It took us 3.5 hours to complete. Anyone wanting to do this walk must be reasonably fit. If you know ahead of time you're going to do this walk, train for it. Build your stamina. The very first part of the walk is the most challenging with a very steep climb to the first platform. And again to the second platform which is the top of the canyon. Also be aware that the entire walk is rocky & uneven and there are other steep climbs as well but not as steep as the beginning. You will climb down one side of the canyon and up the other side. Ending with a steep hike down to the car park. Having said that though the scenes & views that meet the eyes are unbelievable. Absolutely awesome. I highly recommend it for anyone who is fit enough to do this walk. Note there are other longer more challenging walks as well one being Giles Track which is two days going & two days return. It's up to one's fitness level & time availability which will enable one to choose which track is...
Read moreAn easy drive from Kings Creek Station were we camped just outside the National Park, it’s all sealed. Heaps of parking for all types of travellers. Took the short creek walk first which was partly closed due to maintenance but you can go in a short way maybe 800 metres along the creek which was a nice start before talking the Kings Canyon rim walk circuit. The circuit is a loop of about 6km, and starts with a very steep ascend due to the cliff faces that are over 100metres tall, very impressive. The climb is carved out nice to help you there but remember you do need some fitness, the don’t call this Heartbreak Hill of nothing. Once at the top You get some awesome views. The path on the rim walk is well marked and if you take your time you should have no worries. One stop along the way is Cotterills Lookout, a must stop to take in the view. Further on you take stairs down to the Garden of Eden on the right before going back up to complete the circuit. A great walk and glad I’ve ticked this one...
