Went on a day trip with friends in the month of July. Amazing place for hiking. Recent rains had enriched the greens. Was a pleasant day with no rains but was very windy. Started our hike from Ferntree visitor area & Picnic ground. We quickly completed Waterfalls Nature Walk Grade: Easy / Moderate Distance: 1km Time: 45min return Start: Ferntree Visitor Area
The water falls is pretty close from the car park & is a easy walk. The next level was cascade water falls. Which is a small walk upwards. Spend bit of time there & With pretty high energy still in the body decided to cover Mount Sugarloaf Circuit Grade: Moderate / Hard Track: Rocky / Steep Distance: 8.9km Time: 3hr 30min return Start: Ferntree Visitor
The walk was pretty moderate to hard. We went all the way till Snowgum lookout & somehow couldn’t find the circuit towards car park. The map online was showing a 30 min track but we weren’t convinced to take that route. If we had continued further from snowgum lookout, we were getting linked to beerripmo walk which would have taken hours to reach car park. Considering it might be sunset soon, we decided to head back the same way we came. Although we couldn’t finish the circuit, we came back with lot of memories & and few good photographs.

Read moreOutstanding natural scenery of tall forests, lush rainforest, tumbling waters and interesting trails to explore on mountain bike. Mount Buangor, often looked at from afar as one travels at speed along the freeway, has a very real feeling of remoteness to it, beginning the moment one turns off the Western Freeway onto a dusty gravel road that progressively narrows and climbs into the verdant forested hills. It takes a while to locate the main picnic area to Waterfalls Walk, but once there, you have a feeling of being the only person there (as I was indeed!). Small wooden hut for shelter. Dispersed camping sites (require booking with Parks Victoria). No phone reception. BYO water. . Pic: Along Waterfalls Walk (250m). [ Phone pic of Velvia 50 transparency...
Read moreNice isolated place, not much crowded but I would say scary to camp alone unless you are not afraid of dark. Toilets are compost one, doors are not lockable so if you are inside anyone else can enter. I noticed a tank of rain water but not sure if the tap was working or not. They have multiple dedicated fireplaces, we were not able to find any electric grills so we went to Ararat for bbq. Waterfall is near from the top of the mountain, we went with young kids but didn’t find any problem to climb up. My shoes were slippery so better use some trail walkers. What else, place is scenic with...
