The Windy Hill Farm Viewing Area was an unexpectedly interesting stop on our trip to Herberton. I’ve never seen wind turbines up this close before, and standing beneath them was both awe-inspiring and surprisingly peaceful. The sheer size and quiet majesty of the turbines made for a unique and memorable experience. Our whole family really enjoyed this stop — it’s not every day you get to combine a bit of engineering wonder with beautiful countryside views. Definitely worth pulling over for if you’re in the area!

The turn off comes up suddenly, so slow down for the turn. Close up view of wind turbines. Off road parking is awkward, so maybe leave the van on the turn off road rather go up into the car park. Good view with explanatory plaque. If the turbines are rotating, you can hear the quiet whoosh. Impressive giants. If you follow the turn off road it joins Beatrice Way. Beautiful scenic sealed drive to Millaa Millaa but not great for large caravans, bit tight and windy in places.

A viewing area for wind turbines is a very Queenslander-thing to have. I brought someone along from Victoria and they didn't understand what the big deal is to Queenslanders, as some Victorians see wind turbines everyday. It was interesting seeing how different people react differently. A wind farm nearly 20 years old does, however, deserve some recognition if it's the only one in Queensland.

Great to get close up and see windturbines opererating for the first time, knowing that no emmissions were being produced to make clean electricity. Located in the picturesque Atherton tablelands right beside the road, the turbines can be seen for kilometers away and make for a futuristic view on approach. The dairy cattle didnt seem too worried by the subtle whooshing sound of the turbine blades as they turn and were resting out of the hot sun in the shadows of the towers. Its a good rest area on the way to see other sights like the Herberton Historic Village or Milla...
