I visited with my parents and little brother whilst caravanning in Deloraine during winter break and drove to a few locations nearby, 41 South being our first stop. I was interested to see what exactly it would look like as a Salmon farm on land was a new concept to me but it was far greater than I expected.
The self guided tour was very cool and my brother loved looking into the tanks to find the fish. It was a little harder, as they warned us it might be, given the recent poor weather but we managed to spot a few. There were a few spots that were muddy but it was easy enough to walk around. The walk to the water fall was nice and easy which was welcome given the walks my mama usually takes us on. The signs on the walk were great, talking about the making of the farm and how it works to filter the water before sending it back into the stream.
Now, I’m going to be honest, I hate smoked meat. I have never liked it and neither does my mother. But the smoked salmon on the share platters we got were amazing. We both loved it and ate the entire platter happily. I will admit that the burger/patty was a little overdone but it was still enjoyed. Mama and I both walked away with pretty much one of everything on the platter. I purchased a smoked salmon, which you get to choose the piece as they aren’t all exactly the same size, a tub of Salmon Rillettes, their “one island spicy sauce”, and Ginseng Spice. They all come on the platter and were amazing.
The entire trip was so worth it and I now know what good smoked meat tastes like. 41 South is my new standard for smoked food. I hope to have a chance to head back down that way soon to get some more smoked salmon and...

Read moreVery disappointing. Messy. Rundown.
Self-guided tour is more a wander around between ponds for $10 per person rather than an actual self guided 'tour'.. The info displayed is limited, and not relevant to salmon farming. The cement tanks visible contain no signage or information regarding salmon breeding, growing or life cycles. They are just that plain cement tanks with wire fencing around the top. Junk everywhere, cafe exterior is rundown. Pond/wetlands are overgrown. Bathrooms in the cafe unclean.
Ginseng crops not visible. No information about Ginseng farming.
Although clearly a working farm there is significant levels of construction materials, and random junk littering the area. Outside of the main sitting area, in front of the cafe which is a nice spot, the rest of the area visible and walkable by tourists is rundown and unsightly.
Likely at some point in this place was full of life and worth visiting. It is in good need of a renovation.
Menu is limited in selection. Coffee was subpar, and burnt.
Walk to the nearby waterfall is short but the viewing is very far away from the actual waterfall and provides limited view at best.
Would recommend maybe purchasing some salmon...
