If I could give negative stars I would .. the disgusting behaviour of the older gentleman (and I use that term loosely) owner was beyond reproach. We phoned ahead to make sure they had space for us and was told there were only 2 people there .. when we arrived 20mins later it was very busy .. so that was bizarre! We ordered cheeses etc and asked for some water while we decided on tasting some wines. We (4A) sat down inside. The owner then came up to us and said that we needed to move outside (it was freezing) as we weren’t drinking and inside was for people doing tastings ..! He did not ask if we were going to taste any wines - the way which he spoke to us was disgusting - he was rude and non apologetic. When we finished looking at each other like wth just happened - I went up and asked the owner to please cancel and refund our cheese platters .. he did this with such an attitude he virtually through the money into my hand. As a visitor to Australia I was appalled at this winery owners contempt for a customer and I certainly would not recommend you patronise...

We visited this winery looking forward to a tasting- the first of our stops to several wineries. We were a group of 6 adults and 3 children. One of the staff talked us through the tasting process and welcomed us to a table when one of the owners, Margaret, walked in and abruptly told us we couldn’t taste because we were taking up too much room. We had just sent the kids to play on the grass so only 6 adults at a table of 6 with one other table of 4 occupied. She was incredibly rude and unwelcoming and has tainted our experience of Phillip Island and the Purple Hen Winery brand. It’s a real shame because the winery itself looks beautiful and we were visiting with the intention of supporting regional businesses after a tough 2020! Given our families love of wine I’d say they just missed out on hundreds of dollars that we will now...

Simply the best winery to visit in Phillip Island. The most beautiful setting with a pretty sea view is complemented by a friendly, engaging welcome from Jen at the cellar door. The tasting was warm and informative. The passionate winemaker, Dom, joined the conversation when we had cellar-handling questions about the wines. The most difficult decision facing us in the end was what not to buy, since we were limited by airline travel luggage restrictions. It was a memorable experience we'd recommend to anyone keen on their food and wine. In our estimation, this is a "must see" venue...

Blown away is all I can say!! I can’t believe I’ve been visiting Phillip island all my life and I’ve only just found this hidden gem. My wife and I randomly decided to visit the island on a sunny winters Sunday and the purple hen was the place to see. We are so glad we did and we will 100% be back, from the beautiful scenery to the amazing wines and the friendly hosts, everything was perfect. Especially that Pinot Gris we had to snag a bottle of, if you haven’t already do yourself a favour and get on down to The Purple Hen for a tasty drop.

From the moment we arrived, we felt like we were an inconvenience. Wines were underwhelming and whilst the winery was not busy, no customer engagement at all. Just read wine notes on the back of a tasting sheet while we tasted wines bulk delivered to our table. (5 samples for $15 ea) COVID makes things hard but this was just sterile. Very weird vibe. We had the complete opposite experience at Phillip Island winery, which was fabulous and we returned for lunch the next day.
