Spent a great time here. Only about 40-60 mins from Melb by car. After a friendly welcome from the owners, we enjoyed a tasty lasagne with a lovely glass of shiraz, and later, the best scones with lashings of jam and cream - and all very affordably priced. The old house and property is full of light, charm and romance but the displays of children's books and the art on display was what we came for - and we were not disappointed! Currently artist Alissa Duke's delightful exhibition of drawings in old books is a real treat to see. Those who enjoy art and those who love books will enjoy this display. Many other delightful artworks, books and ephemera on display too. After a slow look inside the house, we popped outside and enjoyed the paddocks where kangaroos were soaking up the afternoon sun. Read moreHad a lovely time checking out the Dromkeen homestead. It has a beautiful gallery containing the paintings and illustrations of some Australian artists. They had just finished up a workshop when we arrived and it reminded me of being at the John Marsden writing camp when I was in high school. They do holiday programs and writing/illustrating workshops there too from what I can tell.

The cafe atmosphere was very inviting and the food affordable and comforting. My daughter loved the storytime and craft activity that we were lucky enough to catch by chance (1st Saturday each month 2-3pm) . A great place for parents to take preschool and school age kids.
