It was such a wonderful experience. It might not have been the biggest zoo we have visited, it was def the best and most enjoyable zoo to us. We really had a great and decent time at the zoo. It was so diverse. We got to see so many different animals from all over the world, from local animals to big cats like tiger, lions, snow leopards (they are pretty rare to see in a zoo). It was also a plus that the animals were super interactive, given that animals are notoriously unpredictable. You don’t get to know until you are actually there and be with the animals. I loved the kangaroos and wallabies, so adorable and loving my company, even though I did not have any food at hand. Most animals were really curious, approaching us and having eye contacts with us, which was a really cool experience, something we had never experienced at other zoos.

We did 3 animal encounters, being meerkats, wombat and Tassie devil. Out of all three, we both LOVED the meerkat experience. Didn’t realise meerkats are such curious creatures before today. It was a really quality time we had with the little fur buddies. We got to feed, pet, play and cuddle with the meerkats. But be aware, be prepared to get dirty, as their little paws/claws were quite muddy. And they will climb and jump on you. They will also snuggle up on you. They were specially interested in our shoes, playing with laces and trying to get their little claws inside our shoes. The staff member who led the encounter was super friendly and let us take our time with the meerkats. We are both really happy we purchased the encounter with the meerkats. We also got to hold and pet the wombat and devil but both experiences were mostly holding the animals and having tons of photos taken. First time holding a devil and it was awesome.

The lady who greeted us on both our way in and out was really friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home.

I highly recommend that you give the zoo a visit, especially on a weekday. All sections are super close to each other and you don’t have to spend a lot of time walking and looking for different...

Recently we had the great pleasure to spend a whole day at this most wonderful Zoo. We were pleasantly met at the ticket entrance by an extremally pleasant receptionist with a huge smile to purchase our tickets and some animal feed. The receptionist ( and i am sorry that i cannot remember her name) was, ,i feel, exceptional in her love of the Zoo. Upon entering we were amazed by the cleanliness of the whole place. There are glass walls so as you can take great pictures of the animals. The glass walls were so clean that one could be excused for thinking they were brand new. imagine how many sticky little fingers have been smeared across the walls as little ones try to feel up close to the animals. We have stayed at many 5* hotels, restaurants etc. where the glass walls were often dirty. The walls matched the enclosures the animals are kept in. There were plenty of large grassy and tree filled enclosures for the many species of animals lucky enough to be there. They have an active breeding program both at the Zoo and in partnership with other Zoos around Australia, and it is obvious of the care taken. There are plenty of rubbish bins for patrons, picnic sites and clear, clean pathways. My wife was lucky enough to be able (with the help of a keeper) to have her picture taken with three Giraffe and feed them some carrots then cuddle a Red Panda and a Tassie Devil. She admitted that it was the best day of her life in Tasmania. We cannot wait to take our grand children to the Zoo, and venture to say we will be going back to Tassie from Perth, every year with this splendid Zoo first, and last on the list. I dont know who owns this Zoo, ( it is privately owned) but i do know that it is run with passion and the utmost care. Well done to all who are concerned. We left there with a great feeling of pride in that an Australian family are doin such great work, sort of the same feeling i had when Cathy Freeman won her Olympic Gold. Cant wait to get back there,...

Very disappointed. Drove from Devonport to this place with two excited children (both age 2), only to be denied entry on arrival. This made both children genuinely cry, with tears, which we are all very upset about.

The reason we were denied entry is as follows: One of our children needed to use the potty during the drive. This left us with a dirty potty wrapped in a non-see through plastic bag to dispose of. On arrival one of the adults ran ahead with the potty (other adults still putting sunscreen on at the car) to explain the situation and ask to go to the toilet. She said No we can't go to the toilet without paying first. We accepted this.

However when we all attended as a family to pay and be allowed entry, still carrying the dirty potty, we mentioned that we don't think this was reasonable on her part. She said it was policy. I stated that I don't think she would have a policy on this specific scenario and I think it would have been reasonable to use some discretion. But that was about it.

However as we were entering she chased us down, removed paper ticket from my hand, said "I will refund this, I want you to leave" stating that she works 12 hours a day 7 days a week which is too hard to "be abused". I had a two year old child in my arms the whole time, there is no chance on earth that I would be abusive.

A small negotiation took place: no yelling, just explaining that we have driven a long way, children will be disappointed, this isn't fair on them ect. I asked if police could be involved and they allegedly did call them but then cancelled it. She pointed out that it is private property and they can ask us to leave (maybe true, I don't know the law on this).

All in all a very negative interaction, two very sad children, one very angry lady who honestly is too angry to be in a job that involves talking to...

Visited on a Wednesday as we were staying in the area. Turned out to be the best day ever. So many adorable animals. Meerkats - my heart. There were lots of young Tassie devils trotting around, since it's spring. The white-cheeked northern leucogenys had a baby and he kept trying to climb bendy saplings leaving him dangling upside down suddenly. And so many miniature monkeys...tamarins, marmosets, pygmy marmosets, oh my. We spent ages just watching the little critters playing. Map is great, enclosures are numbered so you can be sure to see everything. An impressive collection of exotic birds, not just the usual rainbow lorikeet & crimson rosella. Having said that the cockatoos were hilarious - one had a penchant for shoelaces, if you stood too close. We had a laugh as he tried to get his beak around the metal nut/bite through the metal bar to get at our youngest (we're pretty sure he wouldn't have eaten him). Definitely get the $2 bags of feed. Kids of all ages will get a lot out of kangaroo feeding - they are very cute and at this time of year they may have joeys in the pouch. The farm animals are friendly and available for feeding also - emus don't nip but some bravery is required because it does look like they're pecking you (hold out food flat on palm, to keep fingers out of the way). Our favourite zoo resident was Roxy, a 1yr old liddle wombat who loves pats. It's a lovely zoo, well laid out, good value, well-maintained (not stinky like some) and yes, covid means no shows but there's a lot of animals, and spring is a great time to visit because babies. Definitely better value for animal encounters than some I've seen advertised. Nice drive out, definitely worth a visit.

We spent a lovely morning at Tasmania Zoo. You have to love a zoo where the animals clearly have so much joie de vive. Except maybe the lions, who were lounging in the sun without a care in the world. Be prepared to waste way too much time in the cafe because it abuts the meerkat enclosure. What little time-wasters they are. I think we spent as much time with them as we did the rest of the zoo. On a personal note I fell in love with three inhabitants in particular. 1. The pigmy marmoset. No bigger than a sparrow, he was a little charmer. 2. Echo the big green parrot (sorry, forgot what kind) who loves a game. He was shuffling along his perch when he saw me arrive, and “boom” onto the wire right in front of my face. What ensued was a hilarious game of mirrors where each of us took turns at contorting our bodies and mimicking each other. Such a treat. 3. The dear little baby Tassie devil who we had an encounter with. It was great value. $25 to hold this little treasure and have quite a decent sized photo as a souvenir. They have many animal encounters, ranging in price. The Tassie tiger exhibit was a heartbreaker. But so glad this beautiful animal is still holding his place amongst our other wildlife. The staff are great and endlessly helpful. The paths are gravel and any slopes are gentle. The only reason I took a star off perfect is lack of seating. There are the tables and seating in the cafe at one end, and some picnic tables at the other end. If you aren’t so great on your legs there is nowhere to take a breather. Maybe a few handy benches dotted here and there would be a great touch. All in all a great day! Thank you.
