This place is really something special. Getting there is hard, though. The access road is now CLOSED PERMANENTLY to cars, even in summer. There are three locked gates, so don't think you will drive or ride a motorcycle. I rode a mountain bike up. It is steep, but coming down takes 10 minutes. Walking takes about 40 minutes. Accessing the falls is hard, too. Scrambling down from the lookout (at a landslip below a small cliff) is somewhat suicidal, and increasingly full of impassable brambles, so you could wade up from some point between there and the little powerstation. Many people will just not be able to get to them. With some imagination, the authorities could make this a great place for everyone, instead of just banning everyone. It makes no sense even in terms of conservation, since old growth forests are logged around here as anyone can see. For now, it's an adventure for scramblers and five star fun...
Read moreRoad was closed to cars from the power station as the track is damaged from a fallen tree. otherwise a 4x4 can get up there and maybe a capable SUV like a Forester on dry weather but there’s no way to do a u-turn if you are unable to go forward or want to turn around. 2WD vehicles wont be able to go up there.
On foot, the track is a grade 3, rocky with a gentle climb, but no access to the river due to steep embankments on both sides. It was a 45min hike from the power station but rather underwhelming once we got there as there’s no access and could only see the waterfall from afar. The photo...
Read moreWalked to this today from the camp ground. Recommend doing it in ten cool of the morning as you are in shade. If you walk past the waterfall to just after the marker on this map to where the road turns right, you can see it again from the rocks. Gate always closed so walking only. Takes a while but nice. Give me a thumbs up if helpful. Once here, keep walking (you have come this far) to the dam. No mobile reception so save...
