A cool winters day ... and a little damp from rain a few days prior. Great time to walk the approx 2km (and 215m vertical rise) to the (almost) top of Scone Mountain National Park to view the Fig Tree Creek waterfall - whilst it was flowing well.. Access is via the management fire trail from the entry to the Park. Follow it up the hill (gets steep- ish in a few places for a short distance) - till you reach the sign pointing the way to Fig Tree Gully ... and warning of the 'Cliff Edge'. Go to the Right. Trail continues upwards to the Left to reach the top of this small NP and reach the highest entry point to the MTB track The walking track is narrow, undulating and becomes rocky in places. The 'Edge' is significant in a few spots - stay alert! Evidence of many wombats living close by :) A few hundred metres will bring you to the top of the Falls. Nice view down the gully back to Scone and quite a drop down the falls. Explore around the rock pools and enjoy the dim light / moist vegetation. Return trip took an hour walking - plus time taken to look around. Well worth the time and Effort especially being only a few minutes from town centre to the Park. PS If you like to MTB - and have reasonable fitness, bring your bike and take a run or two down the recently...
