Visiting Rockcliffe Winery in Scotsdale near Denmark was like stumbling upon a hidden gem, and what a delightful experience it turned out to be! As I stepped through the door, the warm welcome from the friendly staff set the tone for a lovely afternoon, especially on a sweltering 36-degree day. The cool, inviting bar area was a breath of fresh air, making it all too easy to settle in and soak up the atmosphere. The food menu was well laid out, but in the spirit of honesty, I have to own up to my cravings for a cool beer and a delicious pizza. While plenty of patrons were indulging in wine tastings—most of them looked rather pleased with their choices—I opted for the wise route of sticking to beer since I was the designated driver. The Rockcliffe's selection of local Southwest brews, particularly from Artisan Brewing, was impressive. I especially enjoyed the unfiltered Pilsner, which I later discovered is quite the rarity back in Perth. Now, I mustn't overlook the dessert offerings. On that scorching day, both my partner and I were compelled to try their gelato, and let me tell you, it was absolutely phenomenal! The smooth texture and rich flavours were just the ticket to cool us down, and we relished every mouthful. Rockcliffe Winery also provided ample seating options both inside and outside, giving guests a chance to choose their preferred spot based on the weather. The car park was generous as well, making access convenient for all visitors. Reflecting on our visit, it's clear that Rockcliffe Winery will be high on our list for our next jaunt to the Denmark/Albany region. I can already envision the wines making it onto our tasting menu as we indulge in the local offerings again. In short, if you're in the area and seeking a delightful experience, look no further than Rockcliffe—believe me, you...
Read moreRockcliffe Winery, Denmark WA One of my favourite stops in Denmark. Every time I visited and had dinner there with a band over one summer and always left with a box of 12 bottles to take home (yes, that good).
Rockcliffe is a special place. Just 4 km from town, it feels tucked away in peaceful countryside with vineyards stretching out behind the cellar door. The winery itself has a relaxed vibe, the tasting room overlooks the vines, and there’s a genuine warmth in the hospitality that makes you feel instantly at home. The wines here speak of their place, cool-climate character, bright fruit, balanced structure. Their Single Site and Third Reef ranges shine, each sip carries subtle nuances from the granite soils and ocean breezes. During our dinner, every bottle we opened was met with smiles and friends asked where we got them, so naturally I came home with a dozen. But it’s not just about the wine. Rockcliffe offers wood-fired pizzas, platters, and house-made gelato and fudge. On that evening, the food paired beautifully with the wines, adding richness to the experience without overpowering the flavours and the owner, Steve Hall, a former geologist turned winemaker is part of what makes Rockcliffe feel alive. He’s passionate, full of stories about soil, granite cliffs, vines, and place. You sense that the land and wine are intertwined in every bottle.
Rockcliffe Winery is one of those places where you return not just for the wine, but for the feeling of connection, of calm, of being well taken care of. For me, it’s now a must-visit whenever I’m in the Great Southern, and I can’t wait to go back for more. Thank you for so many...
Read moreArriving at Rockcliffe we had the pleasure of being greeted by Steve in the cellar. Myself and partner cannot recommend this winery enough. The chilled laid back vibe with great chats with Steve was exactly what we needed while enjoying multiple tasting of some incredible wines. Steve makes his own gelato and fudge which is to die for! So mouth watering. A family friendly and dog friendly winery. We can’t wait to be back here again.
Steve you really are one of a kind and this is and incredible winery you have built. Will be sending anyone we know your way.
An added bonus is Steve also has an area for those to Hipcamp. Being able to set up our camp for the night and head on down to the cellar in the arvo with our dog has definitely made this a very convenient night...
