The wine at The Swinging Gate Winery is unique and incredibly delicious. I had to hold-up on the tastings as I was behind the ol steering wheel. It was a gorgeous sun-filled Saturday arvo in the Tamar Valley. My fiancé & I were recommended this winery by the folks from another winery in the region. And it blew us away.

Doug and his wife are lovely. They graciously hosted us for a tasting and a delve in to their knowledge of their wine making world. The flavours and aromas are quite unique. The Amarone is very sophisticated - very rich, and full of flavour - the process in which they make it sounds fascinating.

Highly recommend a drop-in for the tasting - Doug has a tonne if interesting knowledge to share - and his wife offers spa treatments next door. Make sure to buy some wine to remind yourself of the experience you have there. It’s set on a ridge looking over the vines. Quality joint. My wife and I boast having visited every major wine distrct in Australia and Swinging Gate was friendly, warmly welcoming and informative and, by far, the most fun we've had tasting wines. A big shout out to Doug who made us feel so welcome. Doug is trialling some interesting concepts and I hope everything goes well for this vinyard. The wine is excellent. I recommend the Single Block. Doug is...

Absolutely fantastic experience at Swinging Door Winery! The customer service was truly exceptional—every staff member was friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

We loved having the choice between indoor and outdoor seating, and the indoor fireplace created a lovely, cosy atmosphere, especially on cooler days. One of the standout features was the door décor—so unique and perfectly fitting for the winery’s name. It really added to the charm and character of the place, making it memorable from the moment you arrive.

A special mention for the staff: they were incredibly knowledgeable about the wines and generous with their time, happily answering all our questions and offering recommendations. It made the tasting experience even more enjoyable.

We’re already looking forward to coming back from October onwards to try the wood fire pizza onsite—what a great addition! All in all, a wonderful place to relax, enjoy great wine, and be looked after by a fantastic team. Would definitely...

Swinging Gate is a vineyard on Glendale Road in the Tamar Valley region of Tasmania. They offer both wine tasting and glamping opportunity and are open from 10am to 5pm (Mon to Sat), 12pm to 5pm (Sundays). Wine tasting and meals are done in a old barn turned cellar door. They have indoor and outdoor seating.

Wine tasting includes 7 wines (AUD$15 per person). They have specific wines for the tasting but you can opt for others if you are wanting to try something specific. We were happy with the Swinging Gate wines tried and ended purchasing a bottle of their Frontignac, something different to your typical pinot gris, Cab Blancs and Rieslings. Some nice Reds at Swinging Gate as well, we liked the 2023 Pinot Noir and purchased a bottle, which we enjoyed with our dinner a couple nights later.

Overall, we enjoyed the wine tasting experience at Swinging Gate and would gladly return for another go around the wine list when visiting the Tamar...
