This is a beautiful rainforest with a few different tracks to choose from.

The 5km or 5.5km variation loop that takes you from the top car park to the bottom and back up again is quite technical with lots of roots and rocks poking out on the single lane track. There are lots of little creeks and depending on which variation you take you could see the waterfall, although it’s more of a trickle and a big tree has come down in that area so access to the water there is quite hard now. Expect to climb 200m if you are taking the wider loop.

If you park at the bottom car park there are flatter easier trails to pick, however you’ll have to rock hop over the creek, this can be a bit slippery so make sure you’ve got your wits about you and grippy shoes.

The lower track takes you through the arboretum and there is a beautiful spot where you can walk across a massive tree to cross the creek. it’s not necessary to cross it but it’s a beautiful spot to stop for a picnic and a play.

There is also a short narrow swing bridge that is fun to cross.

Don’t expect much sunlight on these trails because it’s rainforest 😊

BEWARE THE LEECHES Right here, right now, end of October, wet conditions! The leeches are EVERYWHERE, please be critically aware of taking great care of your dogs paws and looking over them very carefully (especially if they are long haired dogs) after a walk here. It's a great forest although there aren't any grassy picnic type areas for a run around for children. Picnic benches and drop toilets by the car parks. Leeches seem to drop from every tree - cover up your arms and legs and do your shirts up, boots advisable then when you get home CHECK as you take everything off and get a friend to look at your back/hair. You can't feel them on you, you have to LOOK. If you see traces of blood anywhere, check...

Strickland State Forest is an absolute gem for those seeking tranquility and adventure. The forest offers an array of walks, each offering varying lengths and difficulty levels which cater to all fitness levels. The well-marked tracks are perfect for a leisurely stroll or a brisk hike. It's a delight watching the amazing variety of flora and fauna along the way. What's more? This forest is a great place for your dog. The dog-friendly paths make it the ideal spot for some quality time with your furry friend. A walk in Strickland State Forest is nothing less than a refreshing retreat into nature's lap. Highly...

Spectacular Darkinjung Country. Such a beautiful forest to spend time walking the various trails. We did a 4km joint loop of the Bellbird and Arboretum tracks and it took just over an hour. Very easy trails, no steps or steep parts, we saw young kids and elderly doing it. Only shame is that dogs are allowed. I’m a dog lover too but it ruins the chances of seeing any wildlife. Most people also let their dogs off leash which is not cool! Bit of mud in some sections, but no leeches. It rained last week but not in the past few days so rest assured you won’t get leeches until it rains heavy again and you see more mud.

I was looking for somewhere not too far from Sydney that was dog friendly and provided scenery for an adventure. Strickland was perfect! There’s lots of state forest options further afield but this was the closest and best option (it’s not a small slither of bush in the city masquerading under the title of a”forest”) I couldn’t believe how it was literally a rainforest on my doorstep + it was a great playground for photography. Will definitely visit again and explore some of the longer trails
