I first visited this site when I was 8 years old, some 50 years ago. Back then it was easily visible from the Western Highway but now it is virtually hidden behind trees. Even though I have given it 4 stars I appreciate that many will see it as an environmental eyesore because of the graffiti tagging on what is a mysterious conglomerate of boulders. Historically, people have been painting their names on the rocks for over 70 years. The site makes for a short stop, maybe a picnic lunch stop with its typical Australian landscape of gum trees and gravel (no grass to sit on). Note though that it is a "large" ant city. The boulders themselves are worth exploring and maybe playing hide-and-seek! The site sometimes feels a bit creepy and isolated - it is not visited often because it is out of sight and there is no real signage. The gravel track into it veers off the Western Hwy just out the East side of Stawell. The entry track has some deep ruts, so care is needed to avoid them or to manouvre around them -...

My Dad always used to stope here whenever we went to see my Aunty and Uncle as it was a good little rest stop after a long drive and my brother and I would climb whatever rocks we could. So for me it was a bit of nostalgia and reminiscing back in the 70's simpler times, times before mobile phone and tablets and switches etc where kids went and found there own adventure. There are no toilets here. It is just an incredible amount of very large boulders, Who knows how or why they are here just out of Stawell. But I am glad to say they are still covered in graffiti. Some very funny sayings etc if you take the time to read...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing!!! I understand that this is a sacred place, but the numerous pieces of art makes it look like melbourne alleyways that selfie’s live and photography is abundant. It would have been better if this was just a random hidden gem of store bought rocks or a long brick wall from the government that’s made for graffiti, but when you think about it anywhere in australia that is a natural rock formation has aboriginal history. If you don’t like the graffiti, don’t add to it.. but it’s old meets new and I can see a lot of art into it. Nice place for a dog walk, stretch your legs or have a lunch break. There are no bins or cleaners, so best to take litter...
